About

Hello! My name is Ian Flanigan. If you don’t know me, I am a songwriter from Saugerties NY. My mission is to learn, write, and create the best music I can, to connect with as many humans on this earth as possible, while I’m alive.

Short Version:
  • We're a full-time RV touring family!
  • We have adventures to share; the good the bad and the ugly of tour life.
  • I'm a full-time musician singer-songwriter. This is my main platform for songwriting tutorials, behind the scenes content episodes, and new music before it hits the masses.
  • Joining us here as a member of our Patreon family is an exclusive journey on the road, with an honestly ambitious (and maybe a little crazy) family living passionately. The behind the scenes content is made for you, and seen here first, always!
Long Version:
Music is about more than just personal gain. To me, it is more a religion and a spiritual connection. For me, it is the only way of living I know where the more I invest in, and learn about myself and seek the originality in my own music the more I am able to connect, and give to others. We all share passions, love, loss, victories and tragedies, and songwriting allows me to bridge a gap between us where even if its just for a moment, we are connected and sharing something deeper than any tangible thing. For me that is worth dedicating my life to.

All of that is why on 9/19/2019 we (my fiancee: Ayla, myself, and our 6 year-old daughter Kamea) decided to sell everything, pool our resources, put everything on the line, and purchase an older but beautiful 24 foot winnebago, which we now call home! Its official name is the FlaniVan! We've homeschooled Kamea out in the Sonoran desert in southern AZ, TX, NM, TN, GA, PA, ME, VT, and NY while I play a shows, collaborate with artists, grow our network, and escape the winter. We already have one year of traveling and some exciting projects on the horizon. It's all about the music, so if you have any suggestions or would like to see a show near you please comment/reach out!

Ayla and Kamea are both artists of their own and together as a family we feel we are on the right path. Making the decision to go full-time, indefinitely on the road as a family was an uncomfortable one in the beginning, one that is deeper than the music. A decision also about continuing to pursue your passion and purpose in this world despite the overwhelming odds stacked against you. We truly believe, where there is a will there is a way.

Like many artists, I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on creating music that streams for free or .0006 cents per play. I travel thousands of miles to shows with CD’s I’ve printed to sell, while increasingly no-one owns a CD player. I’ve been told I’m too country, too mainstream, too indie, not country enough, not mainstream enough to be on this playlist, or that label, or radio station. Or I need to tour Europe on my own, or they need to see 2 plus years of coast to coast touring on my own to be my booking agency. I could tell you all the grammy winning artists I’ve shared the stage with or worked with, or the awards I’ve won for songwriting or the festivals I’ve played, but none of that really matters. What matters most is writing the next best song that I can.

I’m no longer seeking approval from the mythical music industry. Nor trying to be one of the IN crowd. I’m seeking life, I’m seeking originality. I want to build my own community and my own record label to help other artists. I want to invest my time fully into my art in a way where I can share it with you more frequently. I’m looking to give a more personal behind the scenes relationship of imperfections and something real, and also fully produced and mastered works. My focus is more on the thought process behind the song/production, the behind the scenes on how I make music videos, what I’m learning and practicing on guitar, my personal songwriting strategies and tips, guitar lessons, and hear your input on the music before its released. All of that is why I’m starting my Patreon.

This site will allow you to have access to whatever level you choose. How is this platform different than social media? The content I’m offering here takes more time to produce and is less polished than what I post on social platforms. Facebook and Instagram become my resume for venues and I have less freedom to share the content I think is fun and prevalent with my people. So, I like that I can offer that exclusively here. And if nothing comes through Patreon my family and I will survive… but squirrel meat is tough, and it takes forever getting enough of them for a proper meal. Time better spent on writing the next song!

In all seriousness, if you’ve read this far, thank you for taking the time. If you are someone who has purchased the albums or the merch, thank you. You truly do keep us moving forward. And I hope this site will provide a more rewarding experience for those of you who follow and wish to contribute and keep the music alive!

My hope is for this Patreon to become a replacement to the more well known kickstarters and crowd funding platforms we musicians use to make a record, a way that I can, in-turn give more. I am traveling this beautiful country with a full recording rig and plan to record this next record on my own and collaborate with artists from around the country. Every cent of this Patreon will go towards these goals as well as keeping me and my family on the road. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! Have a great day- Ian

Goals
59% complete
We can't thank you enough for getting us through the first year of life on the road and helping us achieve our first Patreon goal! Every year, these goals will change and grow—as we, change and grow along with the ever-evolving music industry.

This year's goal (in addition to our family tour behind-the-scenes episodes, music videos, more of my new songs) will be creating a documentary-style, behind-the-scenes interview series, filmed across the country, featuring incredibly talented writers and artists that we have had the pleasure to meet, share stages with, and call friends. The big picture of what we strive to accomplish over the years, is to build a true community of artists and fans and this goal will help us get there.

Touring and performing maps us all over the country, which is how we will be able to film in-person interviews, showcase amazing music, and introduce you all to our growing family. I'm also excited to be releasing almost 30 new songs of my own from the road this year! We have had a wild ride and there is no sign of stopping in the foreseeable future. As always, you keep the gas in the tank and the fire burning. We love you, and wish you and your families all the best!
