I know it's not a lot, but I appreciate it! Here's what your $1 a month gets you:
- Addition to the Gallery of Gallant Geeking Givers with your name linked to your SFW URL, which you'd like to promote.
- It lets me know there are people who care, and want me to keep this going.
Are you all about the "Internet Bought Me an Accordion" project? Would you like to help me learn what I'm doing with this fantastic instrument? Here's how you can!
Accordion lessons are $25 a week. Supporters at this level help me cover that cost, so I can put that personal money towards taking care of medical debt. In return, I'll start doing monthly "update videos" talking about, and showing, the progress I've made with the instrument. These will be quick videos, without much (if any) post-production, thanking all of you as I give you the update.
In addition, I'll have a special "Polka Power" section of the Supporter's Page, with your SFW link and preferred name!
NOTE: Once I hit enough supporters at this level to cover at least two weeks of lessons, I'll go back to taking lessons. Right now, I have too much medical debt to be spending extra money, BUT I have enough lessons to know how to conintue through my primer book, and my teacher is expecting great improvement upon my return, so practice time WILL be happening, which means videos will start being posted again the last week of January.
You will get everything that's listed on the "Awesome Supporters" page, but after the first successful payout, you can recommend one piece of media, be it a book, a movie, or music, that you'd like me to consume, and write about on the blog, every month. This will be done in the old "Media Monday" format, with attribution to you for the idea.
"Patreon supporter John Doe recommended I listen to this for this month's media post"
Note: If the media is not readily and affordably available, legally, then I reserve the right to request a different piece. Example: You recommend I watch a movie. The only way to watch it is to order the out of print DVD from Amazon for $57. No, this will not happen, and I will ask you for a second selection.
Another note: It is the Patrons responsibility to tell me what they would like me to review. I will put a reminder up on Patreon the first week of every month for this level of supporter, and you need to reach out to me with your choice! I can't chase everybody down! If I don't hear from you by the end of the month, I'll just assume you didn't have anything for me to write about that month, and mark the job as complete.
Five years ago, I introduced the Indiana Geeking podcast to the Internet's airwaves, which has evolved into a showcase of Hoosier creators and Geeks that don't mind sitting in front of a microphone for a bit. In 2019, the "blogger with a podcast" took on two more podcasts to form the "Team Geeking Family of Podcasts." In 2020, the Indiana Geeking Podcast has been mothballed, and we have Social Sci-Fi on the second Friday of each month, and You're Gonna Love This... or Not... on the third Friday of each month.
During my breaks between work and the blog, I'm also learning 3D Printing with a Creality Ender 3 Pro, and I'm learning how to play the accordion, thanks to the generosity of friends and blog readers.
Trying to accomplish all of this does not come without a cost. The reason I am looking at this platform is because of issues like this. Some (not all) of the different operating costs include:
- Podcast hosting fees through Podbean and LibSyn.
- Domain name renewals
- Gas money to visit comic, hobby, game, and toy shops around Indiana
- Filament costs for the 3D Printer
- Accordion Lessons
- Dropbox Fees
This is where you come in.
