About Joseph Saunders

Welcome!

Thank you for choosing to become a patron!

If you’re here you are probably questioning why it says I produce photography and imagery with not much more information than that, so let’s delve into it a bit.

Very early in life I became fascinated with the resilience of reptiles and their ability to survive harsh conditions. I quickly noticed parallels in their experiences with mine growing up a Black paraplegic in Texas. Like me, they are at risk of being destroyed carelessly and cast aside without second thought, and so, I found kinship and inspiration in them. My youthful world view led me to pursuing education and advocacy surrounding inequality, oppression and human suffering. My passion led me to studying and working towards helping educate and allow people to see, understand, and gain concern and compassion for the immense ecological suffering occurring in today’s world.

In these ventures I have come to realize that there is a lacking presence in both Black people and especially disabled people in natural sciences and photography. I wish to dispel any notion that Black people do not appreciate or are not interested in the outdoors and the natural world, or that disabled people must lead boring, sedentary unadventurous lives.

Thank you for journeying into this unjust world with me. I appreciate you coming here. Let me be a lens for you to see the unappreciated, often persecuted, and beautiful world we share.
