The Team: Biography

  • Buck-Thrifty started in 2015 as an eclectic & eccentric outfit of streetwise alley cats with a pension for making tunes out of people's woes. Brought together by the love of haunting folk melodies drifting over the railroad tracks on Sonoma County's hot summer evenings, it wasn't long before jams in the streets turned into getting dancers on their feet. Just a few months later we released 'The Slacktivist,' a rustic amalgam of Americana styles which we toured 2 years and 200 shows with through California, our performing band as diverse in players as it was in style. The only thing sweeter than our musical memories from this time is the love we have for the new friends and family we made along the way.

Our Line-Up:

  • Corwin Zekley-- Fiddle, Vocals, Songwriting, Arranging & Composition
  • Michael Fierro-- Lead Vocalist, Guitar, Bass, Percussion, Songwriting, Sound Engineering
  • Jay Drapes-- Upright Bass, Guitar, Vocals, Band Management, Arranging & Composition
  • Stu Manzano-- Keys, Synths, & All Things Groovy
  • Michael Fortunato-- Tenor Sax, Clarinet, Flute
  • Libby Cuffie-- Percussion, Vocals
  • Randy Schultz-- Percussion, Vocals

The Dream: Our 3 Immediate Goals

  • Having refined our craft and rebuilt our new identity & sound, we plan to use almost all of our time touring the act we have prepared. It starts with releasing a physical copy of this Album, printing new merch, and taking the show on the road. We are well into booking a 53-day tour of 14 states starting the last day of November, which will take us through a series of cities we will be considering for our new home-base while we take on this, our new-found crusade of spreading the Sonoma County Love.

The Steam: Why Our Train-Car Needs More Fuel

  • The pricey recording process is finished, and we have enough resources to get us STARTED on this tour even though the investment so far has been heavy, but we are going to need a little more steam if this engine is going to make it across the finish line. From wild weather to broken car-parts, we are almost guaranteed to encounter incidental costs or expensive gig cancellations along the way. Secondly, it is CRITICAL to our financial security that we have compelling authentic personal merchandise that reflects our character and connects us to our audience while on this journey. A burned CD in a paper bag doesnt quite have the same empathetic effect as an 8-page booklet with everyone's names, a short bio, and the lyrics included. And that is where you come in-- while this tour is guaranteed to happen, the quality of our product and the good health with which we are able to travel is dependant on your donation. Each contribution of even a dollar or more could make the difference for us between a cold wet hungry night alone and a cozy evening spent connecting with new friends & fans around all around the United States.

Our Current Budget Breakdown

Pre-Tour Expenses:
~$2,000 for tour vehicle (paid)
~$2,000 for our live sound system (paid)
~$5,000 to Record the album (paid)
~$2,000 to print the Album
~$250 T-Shirt Printing

Expected Expenses on tour(food/gas/lodging): $3800
Expected Earnings from Tour: $5,500

The Impact

This is our life's work, we've embraced it, we do it damn well, and now it's time for us to do it ALL the time. The quality of the seeds we plant and the success we encounter in this first national tour will do much to determine what the next 3 and 5 years of our life and our art look like. We have already been able to help countless non-profit causes by sharing our art for their fundraisers, been invited to play in some of the most beautiful spaces, and (best of all) meet tens of thousands of people along the way and somehow manage to keep so many of them as friends. It's you, our chosen family, who have inspired us to take this bold leap forward, because without your faith and support we would not have made it to where we are today. It is my honor to invite you to help us once again, this time for the most important work we've ever done.

Other Ways You Can Help

Don't be afraid to offer your support even if the finances aren't workable right now! We need places to stay, people to meet, and sights to see, so be sure to reach out with all of your recommendations.
