“Pounds shows the depth of her lyricism in a literary style akin to the Southern Gothic of Flannery O’Conner. Her lines of the song could be those from one of the great Southern writer’s short stories and portend trouble as surely as a black cat crossing your path.” -Mike Bernos, Arbus Magazine

With a musical background spanning styles as diverse as teenage Christian Pop-Punk, to big band jazz, to Americana roots music, Jessica Pounds displays an eclectic, inclusive writing style that showcases her unique take-always from each genre. Her writing style is best summed up as “eerily hopeful”, her dark soprano vocals soaring ethereally, all while displaying melodic styling that borders equally on the obscure and the catchy, balancing quirky modes with standard chord progressions in a seamless transitional style all her own. She has performed live onstage with the likes of Americana greats such as Jim Lauderdale and Tania Elizabeth of the Avett Brothers, and has held her own as the front woman of esteemed Jacksonville darlings Canary in the Coalmine.

After a 2-year-long sabbatical of self-discovery and personal empowerment, Jessica is back as a solo artist to continue her story. In a diversification of expression, Jessica is releasing parts of the novel she has been working, “Keep it Yourself”, detailing her journey through mental health, madness, and creativity, as a musician, artist, and patient. Her work conveys an ultimate shedding of each of those identities as she opens us and invites you to come along on the journey of finding a voice, both individually and collectively, as a supporter, participant, and patron.
