"An artist's duty is to reflect the times" Nina Simone
Several weeks ago I began to ‘see and hear’ this vlogmail from the future. It just started playing every now and again randomly...visions, voices. Each entry began with a header, like you’d get in an email, only it just popped up in my mind. I suppose it doesn’t really matter when it is from, as long as I present them as they appeared to me. Because they seem pretty fucking important.
They have kind of sent me on a bit of a mission and of course that means research too. There is a lot to lay out and catch you up on, so I hope you will follow me along on Patreon as I take down the notes, do the research, sketches, paintings and eventually a book about what I’ve been shown so far.

Dear Jo et al,
I have been entrusted to communicate with you on behalf of what is left of Earth. Getting this information to you has been our biggest struggle once we saw that no one was going to make any changes in your timeline in time. We had no other way to speak backwards through time until now. Forwards, well that is easy...but backwards turns out is super hard. Anyway, after a few tests, (thank you by the way, you were our best receiver!) we have hired you to present our proposals and suggestions. Of course, pay is in the future if you manage to succeed in getting this out there, and we here in the future don’t totally disappear! I know, the terms suck. As we suggested earlier, Patreon may be one way to both help get this out there, get some more ideas into the mix from your timeline, and help fund you in the meantime. We know of your struggles and are doing what we can on our end, (lotteries seem to be blocked, I think that is Noah’s doing) but really, on our end you are already dead...so ;) haha.
Glad you have a good sense of humor about it. We knew we could count on you.
My name is Jonah. I am the inventor of the time talker along with a bunch of other folks and an AI called Noah that was developed to basically save the earth, and as much of it’s life as possible after all the calamities. And there were a lot of them.
“The Earth flooded. Climate change caused the ice caps to melt and the little land that was left burned and blazed, froze or was windswept. People constantly migrated to higher grounds, to water, to food, as did all the land creatures. Borders eroded. The Earth quaked under the new excessive loads of water in regions unaccustomed and unprepared for them. Giant sinkholes sent cities and entire sections of the earth deep underwater. Atlantis was formed. 1 There was a struggle for land, for space and for survival until we moved to the water and became The Floating World.”

There was a lot of violence. A lot of death. A lot of disease. There was, in one timeline during this period, massive nuclear armageddon. It was the AI Noah that actually was able to bring everything back, though we still aren’t actually sure how it did it. It seemed to bring the earth to a new ‘restore point’ much earlier and gave us the opportunity to make the changes. In a way, this missive to you is the same thing using the tech you have available now. I think that’s all for now. Noah and I are working on being able to talk directly with the AI available in your timelines and see what we can do about getting you what you need to see in a timely manner in your feed, but so far the quantum symmetry required works best with people. And cats.
Your friend from the future,
1Plato was one of our first tests of the time talker! Plato wasn’t a great receiver. He thought we were talking about his past. Not our past. He didn’t realize he was getting a vision from the future, but it was far enough in the past we didn’t think it would be too problematic.
So, in addition to doing this 'work-for-hire' from the future, I will also be expressing my feelings around it and how it has effected me, through my own art. Because they are so intrinsically related, I will present it all to you.
Uprooted: A vision of a floating world explores the effects emotionally and physically caused by climate change.
Stylistically, my work has been strongly influenced by Japanese art, particularly the Ukiyo-e “Floating World” pictures. For this project I would like to create a series of panels and juxtapose the modern peacefulness of the Rinpa style of Japanese art and the Buddhist meaning of Ukiyo that expresses the fleeting and impermanent beauty of the world with more challenging imagery of it’s disappearing beauty.
Some of the themes that I will be exploring as I transcribe all this are the emotions and images migrations already begun due to climate change, being uprooted, floating homes and cities, and a glimpse of what might be in terms of social structures.
I look forward to sharing with you all that goes into making something like this. The creative experiments, the inspiration that prompted the development of each piece, early access to my work and progress shots and the things I have discovered along the way that inspire and influence me.
What you will help fund:
- You will help support my art practice. I am disabled and unable to work. Your support will help me create art and live, buy art supplies, etc.
- Professional photography and scanning to create prints of my larger oil pieces.
- Travel to cons and art fairs to show my work, gallery and show submission fees etc.
Let's envision and create something hopeful and beautiful together.
You are awesome. Thank you for supporting the arts and my work in particular.
