About
Joan Albright is a science-fiction and fantasy writer who sometimes dabbles in steampunk.
A world traveler before the age of six, Joan is a collector of languages and cultural ideas. Unable to find a linguistics major at her local university, she chose instead to study a wide range of topics, from art and illustration to computer science and graphics technology.
She taught herself HTML and PHP, among other programming languages, and has been building webpages for fun and profit since she was sixteen years old. A true polymath, Joan is also a certified Wilderness Guide, and spent a summer packing mules in Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest.
Joan's hobbies include translating manga and anime from Japanese, fighting with the Belegarth Medieval Combat Society (her preferred weapon style is sword and shield, followed closely by Florentine), and collecting back-to-basics skills such as soapmaking, sewing, gardening and woodworking.
In high school, Joan participated in an AFJROTC program--an experience which impacted her deeply. She comes from a family with three generations of proud service in the U.S. Air Force (including a younger sister).
Among other main influences in her writing, Joan cites the works of writers Robert Jordan (The Wheel of Time), Anne McCaffrey (Dragonriders of Pern), E.E. Smith (Lensman), and Timothy Zahn (Heir to the Empire), as well as directors Masashi Ikeda (Gundam Wing) and Joss Whedon (Serenity).

Hi! I'm Joan Albright, creator of the steampunk serial Silas Merryweather and the Bottomless Sky. You may have seen my work on JukePop Serials, but did you know I'm also a science fiction writer? Here are a few of the projects I've been working on lately, and which you can help complete by supporting me here on Patreon. I'll also be releasing Patron-only glimpses of my writing process, including extra samples of the unfinished drafts, deleted chapters not readable anywhere else, and chances to become a character in one of the stories.

Pegasus Chained
The mining colony of Pegasus Four has outgrown its original charter, sparking conflict between the laborers and the ruling class. An uprising seems almost inevitable when Rosa Walker is recruited to pilot an experimental war machine called a Savant armor.
Originally a decryption specialist, Rosa is daunted by the experience of her colleagues--the brilliant tactician Major Jonathan Daniels, and the ruthless Lieutenant Wickowski--both veterans of the Tesaad Wars. Nevertheless, Rosa's aid is key to the completion of the armors, and she stretches herself to make the project succeed. But the strength of the rebels is also growing. They steal the newly-completed prototypes, and Rosa must take the field to get them back, despite having grown close to her stone-faced commander.
When the war takes a turn for the worse, Rosa's allies dwindle and turn against her. Soon she must decide where her true loyalties lie--with the Defense Forces to whom she has sworn, or with the enemy she’s been fighting all along.
Silas Merryweather and the Bottomless Sky
Silas is afraid of falling. Ever since his mother vanished in an Aetheric storm, he's been terrified of the outside; afraid that he'll be blown away, never to be heard from again. But when he learns that Matylene Merryweather might still be alive, Silas must brave the open skies to find her.
Silas and his unlikely companion, the incorrigible Windy Tramontane, search for their missing parents, only to find that there is more to the mystery than either of them imagined.
Quetzalcoatl
On the way to the colony world of Alphenor, an interstellar cruise ship collides with a mysterious object. The passengers and crew must work together to survive, but quickly learn that the ship which damaged their own is part of an alien invasion. Unless they can do something to stop it, there will be no one left to rescue them.
