Hi my name is Joe Posnanski. I write stuff. Fun fact: Leo Tolstoy introduced himself the same way. But my stuff is different from his stuff in a few subtle ways. Tolstoy wrote realistic fiction that serves as a guidepost in our search for the meaning of life. I write about Snuggies and obscure baseball things and the real villain of the movie "A Few Good Men." So round one: Me.

Another fun fact, Leo Tolstoy did not have a podcast. But I do -- two podcasts, actually. I do a bi-weekly podcast with Michael Schur, creator of such shows as Parks and Rec and The Good Place and presumed expert in various fields such as peanut butter and jelly construction and Twitter rants. In the other podcast, Passions in America, I interview people way cooler than me or Michael about their passions.

Now that we have established that I'm way better than Tolstoy, we can talk Patreon. For more than a decade, I have been doing all this blogging and podcasting for free. Why? Because I failed out of accounting school. My wife Margo would like me to point out at this time that it wasn't actually free -- I spent a lot of money to keep it going.

Well, I'd like to keep it all going and even write more, podcast more, connect more. The way to do that is to bring on a couple of people -- a producer and an editor, to start -- to help. I can't ask them to do it for free because they did not drop out of accounting school. I also can't keep having Margo remind me how much I'm spending to give away free stuff. Enter Patreon.

There are three tiers on here. They're pretty self explanatory I think -- one is for all sorts of fun PosCast bonus stuff, two is to read some of the cool new projects I'm doing for the blog, and three is for both. If I can be serious for a moment, I hope you don't view this as a straight "subscriber" transaction. PBS isn't charging you for a tote bag. If you are thinking, "Wait, I'm not PAYING for content when I get all this free stuff everywhere" hey, I don't blame you. This is probably not for you.

I'm asking you to come along for a ride, to become a member, to see where this thing can take us. The best part of my professional life has been the community we've built. I promise to do my part. I'll write and prod and spew nonsense. There will be bonus stuff, offbeat stories, deep rabbit holes, weird projects, small books I'll be writing exclusively for you. It will be fun.

Thanks for reading this, by the way, You know one of the cool things about writing is I can write "Thanks for reading this," and know that only the people who actually read to the bottom will get this special bit of gratitude. The rest left long ago.
