Art Supplies: Chainsaw Hedgemaze Mayhem
$100 per month
Wow. I'll definitely be able to afford a fancy digital pen. I may be able to get a document scanner for my larger works and canvases. I will be able to afford a decent graphics card for digital photo editing, and I will be able to work in extremely large and detailed resolutions for the images I post.
Art Supplies: Revenge of Doctor Killzone
$150 per month
I can consider purchasing a larger screen for the work that I do, maybe a second monitor if my computer can handle it.
A Lot Less Stress
$250 per month
I can consider dropping down to 35 hours a week at my day job so I can devote more time to drawing and making art. This is a great weight lifted off my shoulders.
Part Time Artist
$500 per month
I can definitely drop a few hours a week at my day job. I can consider working part time at my day job. I can devote much more time to working on art. I will be a part-time artist, part-time cashier.
Full Time Artist
$1,200 per month
I can work on art full-time. I can study and learn, and dream and create. This is my ultimate goal. I can make things that people can look at that will make them happy. Or wistful. Or things we don't have words for.

About

My name is Joel Evans, I am an illustrator and graphic artist based in Missoula, Montana. I am currently working full time at a pharmacy and working on art when I'm not at my day job. I devote at least 2 to 3 hours each night to working on sketches, studying old art books, and increasing my knowledge of classic and contemporary art in the hopes of getting good enough to make it as a 'real' artist.

I, like everyone else, have a lot of responsibilities. Me to my wife, my family, and my job, but working full-time in addition to the time I spend drawing (about 60-80 hours a week, total) is draining me physically and mentally. Working a day job is a necessity I can't simply abandon, but I also recognize that most people that split their energy between work and art inevitably choose the path of working that day job for the rest of their life. And so I am trying as best I can to improve my work, and learning as much as I can about the industry to make a living for me and my wife, and eventually make art on my own terms.

I am trying to get some funding so that I can devote more time to the art I currently can only make in my spare time. I hope to work on art full-time, and someday attend an art school to improve my work. I have this fantasy of paying my way through art school with the work I do here and now. For the moment, I can only hope that the work I present here can convince you that the time you spend reading this isn't wasted, that the hours I have invested sketching, drawing, and studying isn't wasted.

Please take some time to see the work I have done and decide if I'm worth an investment of your time, and maybe a few dollars. Thank you.

I am trying to devote more time to the art I currently can only make in my spare time. I hope to work on art full-time, and hope to someday attend an art school. I have a fantasy of paying my way through art school with the work I do here and now. For now, I need money to buy art supplies, better equipment, and more reference material to learn from so I can improve my work. If I can make 500 or so dollars a month making the art that I love, I will be able to work part-time at my day job so I can devote more time to producing art. The secondary benefit to this will be that I can maintain my sanity and maybe eat food.
