OUR MATO : Hope is just one foot forward .
A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED
According to the United States Inter agency Council on Homelessness (USICH), homelessness is increasing at an alarming rate, and the homeless population is at the highest its ever been – with as many as 553,742 people being homeless on a single night in 2017 last year. That means they were either sleeping outside, in an emergency shelter, or in a transitional housing program.
While certain demographics are more at risk, such as the unemployed, those in poverty, abuse victims, the mentally ill, and hard drug users, homelessness can happen to anyone and is not an indicator of someone being a failure. The stress, anxiety, and health issues that can come from having nowhere to live are terrifying, and considering the rising costs of living in cities and reduction in funding, many shelters are closing, and people are in dire need of help.
OUR STORY
As a trucker, my wife and I have been all over America and experienced everything it has to offer. We’ve seen wonderful attractions and met amazing people, but we’ve also seen the suffering of many individuals and families who would benefit greatly just from having a single warm meal to fill their stomachs and give them hope.
It’s time for us to do more. We’re heading back on the road, only this time it’s in a converted school bus, which we’ll use to hand out meals to those in need all across America.
WHAT WE NEED
With the funding from this campaign, we’ll be covering the following expenses:
School Bus Purchasing a new or used school bus in good condition
Conversion – Renovating the bus to facilitate living, cooking, and food storage
Enough food to provide meals for the first month or so of operations
Gas and other expenses
We’ll be providing updates about our work on the school bus along the way, and then more updates as we hit the road. We’ll continue to rely on charitable donations from individuals and companies, and see just how far we can take this.
We hope you’ll say hi when we pass through your town!
PLEASE SHARE OUR CAUSE
Tell your friends, family, and community groups about our campaign, and help us raise enough funding to keep this going! Our Meals on Wheels is going cross-country to raise awareness about the homeless situation and doing everything we can to help, but we can’t do it without your support.
