Happy New Year and thanks for visiting my page!

Now that 2019 is here I want to settle into a better work routine again and start getting more flash fiction on the page. Last year I was posting almost daily and had a lot of fun with it. I'd like to repeat that again. And what would make it even MORE FUN, is hearing what prompt words you guys would like to see me write about! Write me a message on the Community page or in comments and I'll write something for you!

But Flash Fiction isn't the only thing I write. I have novels, short stories, and novellas in various states of production. I haven't settled into a genre or age range as far as my branding goes, so I have a wide range of fiction at the moment.

This page is the ONLY place where I share first drafts, notes, and comments about my work. All of these projects will undergo significant change before publication, and I look forward to watching them grow and change with you.

Other things you'll see on here are snippets about writing inspiration, pictures of my pets, and updates on my house construction and gardening projects.

So where does your money go?

The money I make on this page goes into supporting myself and my family. Sometimes that means computer repairs on my work machine, or books and classes about writing and the business of publication. Thanks to my patrons I've already been able to take one business class about the Freemium business model and how to make it work! THANK YOU!

Sometimes that money goes to putting a roof or drywall on the house. We're building as we go, and every year is an adventure. Also as my family navigates a sea of food allergies we're investing more into gardening  and growing safe, affordable food for ourselves.

What are my goals as a creator?

First and foremost, my goal as a creator is to support myself by using my creative talents to help people. To encourage, enlighten, and ennoble while entertaining. This is why I do everything I do, and I strive to make all my work reflect that value. But it's not simple.

One of my major goals this year is to figure out my business plan
. There are many ways for authors to publish these days and I'm not sure which one will be best for me. I could go the traditional route, find a small press, self publish, or publish everything on Patreon to gather more followers here.  All of these methods have benefits and drawbacks, and it's going to take me a little while to really decide which suits me and my work best.

I'll continue studying the craft of writing. I have a small collection of books on the subject that I've found very useful already. I'm also excited to do some beta reading for other authors I've met this past year. Some of them are very talented people and I feel I can learn a lot from working with them!

And of course there's the writing itself. I have a couple of people lined up to beta read MOUNTAIN PRINCE, so I'd like to focus on that during the beginning months. I have a bunch of revisions to make, cleaning up the ending and plugging holes. I also need to decide exactly which age range it's in, because this will affect the ideal word count.

And it goes on! All of my projects are listed below. They don't all have a lot in common, but they share this. They're quirky and touching. They're up-lifting and humorous. They're part of my life that I want to share.

Here's an update on my recent projects!

Mountain Prince:
YA Fantasy

Chapters are posted so look for updates with the MOUNTAIN PRINCE tag!
I'm working on filling in some names and details that were left out in the first draft, and I'm making a lot of revisions. I hope to get them finished by February so I can send it to beta and sensitivity readers.

Flash Fiction: All age ranges, all genres

I don't know how much I'll get on here, but I want to post as many days as I can. At the end of each month I'll compile public flash fiction into a library that will be accessible to patrons only. This should help everyone find the recent posts more easily while still keeping the old ones available for interested readers.

On Pilgrim Island: Adult Contemporary Fiction

ABIGAIL'S NEIGHBORS is almost finished, and chapters are posted monthly under the ABIGAIL'S NEIGHBORS tag. I'd like to get it to some more experienced beta readers for a check and final clean up.

I need to finish up some edits on GEORGETTE'S PIG, the second novella in the series, and then I can start posting chapters up here and sending it to beta readers also. (And I'm a little scared to finish because I've been considering publishing ABIGAIL'S NEIGHBORS separately after all, but that's another matter!)

First chapter is free! Just click the Featured Tags link for ABIGAIL'S NEIGHBORS to get started!

Fields of Asphodel:
Adult SciFi

This series holds the first six novel length books I ever wrote. They're important to me in so many ways but... they need a lot of work. Right now book two, BOOT CAMP, is furthest along, but it's hard to share book two before book one...

I don't know if I'll have time to focus on FIELDS this year. It'd be nice, but it needs so much work compared to some other projects, and I'd like to start clearing my desk a little.

Short Stories:
All ages, all genres

Match Girl is a YA fantasy retelling of a classic fairy tale, and also a commentary on finding the wonderful author community on Twitter this year! First draft is already posted. I'd like to work on some revisions and get it to beta readers this year.

Catfishing,
a children's book I wrote back in high school is getting a fresh look. I'm hoping to find an illustrator to help it along, because as with many children's books, it leans on visuals to tell the story. As much as I'd love to illustrate it myself, that's a skill set I haven't practiced, and I don't know that I'll be able to work on it this year.

New Moon, New Home
was going to be a free performance for a charity fundraiser, but the club decided against the idea, and without a deadline I didn't push drafting it out. It's another children's to middle grade book about a child moving to a lunar colony with his family (and one smuggled rabbit!)

These are just a few of the ideas loitering in my brain and computer, waiting to be drafted, edited, and shared with the world.!

Join my community to see posts about me, my family, and our adventure in writing fiction, raising children, wrangling pets, and building our house in the country! On the way you'll be the first to see my books come to life, play along with me in writing exercises, give me feedback, see your own ideas woven into fictional worlds, and have fun doing it!

Thanks for checking out my page, and I hope to see you in the comments!

Everything you need to write is already in your head, except for the computer, and maybe a desk to put it on. A desk would be awesome. I think I'll get one. I think I'll also write it a backstory so we can share the trials, struggles, hurricanes, and hubris it might have seen before it met me!

Now I'm as excited about the story as I am about my new office! Let's make this happen!
