Lane Smith is a Colorado based painter and illustrator. He grew up in the Rocky Mountains and then left on a ten year art odyssey, his vessel of choice being a 1975 Chevy van which he lived in for part of this time. After moving from state to state painting murals for several years, he was commissioned by World Powerlifting Champion CT Fletcher aka “The Superman from Compton” to paint the original Iron Addicts Gym. After finishing the 10,000 square ft. project and working as a commercial artist in Southern California for two years, he returned home to Telluride. He now coaches the Telluride freeski team in the winter and sells artwork at the Farmers’ Market in the summer. The vast majority of his work is made in the theme of cultural equity, the notion that all cultures should have an opportunity to be valued and appreciated.
