A reminder you can send questions to me all month, but the sooner you send yours in, the more likely I'll have a chance to get to them!

Hey y'all! Thank you for visiting and supporting my page!

I'm Laura Silverman, the author of GIRL OUT OF WATER. I love writing books, but I also love editing books, and I'm excited to take this passion to a new platform! I've been editing manuscripts and query letters for five years and over that time I've found many writers don't have money in the budget for individualized edits. Plus, some writers aren't at that stage of the writing process yet. Or they have craft questions but also questions about the publishing business! With this Patreon platform, writers can get their specific writing and publishing questions answered at an affordable cost.

Why should I support this Patreon? Every month, you'll ask questions, and I'll answer them! All patrons can ask questions, will receive a monthly newsletter of writing and publishing, will receive a monthly post by a guest writer, and be entered into a raffle to win a critique!

Why are you qualified to give advice? I've been a freelance editor for five years and have edited dozens of manuscripts in all genres and categories. I have a BA in English and a BA in Advertising from the University of Georgia and an MFA in Creative Writing from the New School. When I lived in NYC, I interned at multiple literary agencies, so I know what that slush pile looks like. Plus, of course I write books! GIRL OUT OF WATER came out in 2017, and I have two more books coming out in 2019

Why did you create this Patreon? I've been living with chronic pain for six years now, and while I'm happy to report things have been getting steadily better with time and rehab, I'm still unable to work a full time job. My published books help, but I'm hoping to move out of my parents' house (I love them! But not the suburbs!) and live independently again in the next year. I don't have the funds yet to make that possible, so I'm hoping this Patreon will help me save up while helping writers with their craft and the business!

Do you still edit manuscripts and query letters? Absolutely! I'm still open to manuscript editing and query critiques. Check out my editing services and contact me at [email protected]

Okay! I'm a patron! What type of questions should I ask? Anything! I'm open to all questions about writing and publishing, from craft questions to querying etiquette questions.

  • I work a full time job. How do I make time to write?
  • Help! Why do all my characters sound the same in dialogue?
  • How do I find an agent who represents my type of book?
  • How much time should I spend describing the setting?
  • I queried an agent a month ago and haven't heard back. What should I do?
  • I finished my first draft, but I'm terrified of revision. Where do I start?
Please keep your questions general if possible. You can give a little context, but I should be able to give you an answer without reading an excerpt or summary of your work. All questions and answers will be posted publicly, so please don't send private information!

Details: I will pick a selection of questions to answer for the newsletter. The guest writer will also pick a selection of questions to answer for their post. There is one critique raffle every month open to all patrons. I will edit the number of pages corresponding to the patron tier of the winner. Pages must be 12pt, Times New Roman, and double spaced.

Questions? Suggestions? Please always free to reach out with thoughts!

Thank you everyone!
