Who are you?

Greetings! My name is Clint Basinger and I'm the creator of the YouTube show Lazy Game Reviews. But why am I here on Patreon? Well, because I really enjoy making LGR episodes and I think that this can really help me continue to, and even expand where I see fit!

I love making my videos on YouTube, which is why I've done at least one per week since June of 2009. Video games, and especially classic computer games, are my big fat passion. I love the stories behind their creation, the waves of nostalgia they bring on, the headspace they invoke, the hardware they run on, and the community of people that has formed around them. And since starting LGR, my appreciation and enjoyment of this has only increased, and I've found a fantastic audience on YouTube that digs this stuff, too.

How does Patreon work and what do I get out of it?

First: This does not let you demand I make a specific videos. I am not going to start charging to see my videos. This is simply an option for those that enjoy what I already do to help if they feel like it! You can pledge $1 (or any amount) each month for however long you desire, as sort of a "tip" for me producing the content I do on YouTube. This lets you support those that create content you enjoy, help LGR improve in quality and quantity, have the option to engage in Q&A's and get autographed disks, and other stuff as I come up with it! Your subscription can be edited or cancelled at any time.

Why are you doing this?

Things are a bit iffy in YouTube-land. As it is now, I do this as my job and get paid ad revenue generated by YouTube views. However, this has been on shaky ground with the changes to how YouTube's Content ID system flags videos. Even using fair use and proper licensing, I'm still seeing my videos flagged and as a result the entire video is claimed by someone else and I earn nothing from it. But an even bigger reason is that I just really love doing this, and want to continue to make it better than ever in any reasonable way I can! So the more is pledged here the more goes into LGR, and in turn, my life in general.

What happens if this succeeds?

Since starting Patreon I've increased the show from one to TWO videos per week, bought new camera equipment and lighting, rented out a new studio/storage place to film, bought the updated Adobe suite to edit videos, got a nice laptop to let me make videos away from home, and started two new shows: LGR Thrifts and LGR Tech Tales. And if things keep going well, I plan to cover more hardware and software, purchase new oddware to review, do Sims things, travel to cons, get better equipment when needed, and so on.
