Picture the scene… A hero sets out on an epic quest to fulfil some deep seated ambition. At first the hero struggles, and that’s not in any way a surprise. Of the many countless people who set out on the same quest, barely a handful find what they seek. The odds seem insurmountable, but the hero powers on regardless, never uncertain about their eventual victory, paying no heed to the hundreds of distractions that clammer for them to veer off their chosen path. They struggle, they overcome, they emerge victorious. And then they get all the girls.

These are the kind of stories I like to write. My name is J.M. Coombs. You might also know me as LeadVonE. And the story above is not only the type of story I like to write, but also the story of my journey so far… well, the first half anyway.

I started writing fantasy because almost no one was writing the type of story I wanted to read. It seemed that everywhere I looked, fantasy worlds were drab and dreary — filled with more hopeless suffering than a poverty stricken war zone. The few that weren’t often swung the pendulum far too far in the opposite direction, full of wise-cracking fools who only win in the end because the plot painfully twists the whole fantastical world around them.

I enjoy stories that are both fun and thoughtful.

And this is my epic quest — to write exactly those stories, and for them to be awesome — not just kinda nice, but really, really good — the kind of books that fix an amused smile on the reader's face from start to finish, and after several years of sharpening my blade while living off of rice and beans, I believe I'm finally closing in on that goal.

My readers made this happen.

I’ve been considering a Patreon program for quite a while now, but I’ve always put it off. ‘Now’s not the time’, I told myself. ‘My following isn’t big enough,’ I thought. Or, perhaps the most damning, ‘My work isn’t good enough, yet’ (Yes, I am a recovering perfectionist.)

Then, one day, a bunch of readers from one of my hobby projects lit a fire under my arse. They got together and demanded — yes, demanded — that I give them a way to support me. They told me that now was the time, that they didn’t care how big my following was, because they followed me, and that yes, my work wasn’t just ‘good enough’ for them, but so good that they would gather together and argue with each other over the finest details of plot and character long, long into the night. I finally knew I couldn’t put this off any longer when one of them actually threatened to buy copy after copy of the same book on Amazon if I didn’t find some way for him to hand over more money.

So… yeah. Guess it’s time to stop putting this off.

The first goal will be to get me out of the red so I can write full-time without having to worry about basic things like food, water, shelter, internet — you know, the essentials. From there, we’ll move upwards to glory. All of the goals are focused on one of three things…

1. Improving the quality of the end product (for example, by hiring a professional artist to do my book covers).
2. Finding me more time to write more books, quicker.
3. Strengthening the clan by occasionally getting me off this island and out to the places where my readers are more likely to actually hang out.

Each and every pledge helps towards these goals. The road will be long and hard, but we will get there. Thank you so much for your patronage.

Welcome, most noble patron. Welcome to my workshop. Please, mind the dragon, she's been ill. Now, where was I? Oh, yes. My eternal gratitude is yours. As an official patron you'll have access to the patron only feed, and the special white role of patron on the official fan-run LeadVonE discord server.
Includes Discord rewards
Uncommon Patron
$3 or more per month 3 patrons
Mmm? What's that? Basic patron level isn't enough? Ah, yes, I can see you have an eye. Well then, if you'll just step this way, what do you think of this? A little more uncommon, if you'll forgive my words — everything that a basic patron gets, plus you'll be able to show off the green role in the discord channel. They'll be green with envy, heh heh heh. Oh, I am sorry. Pardon my bad joke. But I'll also be three times as eternally grateful, of course.

Ahhhh... you want to see around the back? I keep all my rough drafts there, you know — the stuff I'm not ready to publish. Some of it's good. Some of it's not so good. But for someone who really just has to see what I'm up to... yes, I can see why you'd want that — a rare patron indeed.

At this level, you'll get access to select drafts from my writings before I publish them, along with a private discord channel to talk about them with other rare, epic, and legendary patrons.

Includes Discord rewards
Epic Patron
$10 or more per month 8 patrons
Yes, I did just say epic patrons. You're interested? Of course you are. I can see you eying the artwork all over the walls. You, sir, are clearly a patron of exquisite taste. Err... sir? Madam? Sir? I do apologise, it's so very difficult to tell. Either way, purple would suit you. Please step right this way to be fitted.

Epic patrons get everything that the previous levels get, plus high-res versions of all artwork I use for my book covers as they are published, as well as the level of epic patron on the discord server.

Includes Discord rewards
Legendary Patron
$25 or more per month 11 patrons
Oh, wow. I didn't think I'd quite heard you correctly, most noble of all my patrons. Well, yes, of course I'll accept, but we will have to think of something which matches up to the standards of such legendary patronage.... Mmmm.... Yes, I think I have just the thing! Signed copies of every book I publish and acknowledgement of your patronage in the tome itself — immortality for all time, or at least as long as my work lasts. Only the best for you.

Legendary patrons get all the previous benefits, plus signed copies of every book published, the legendary patron role on discord, and their name in the dedications at the front of each book.

(Eligibility for the acknowledgement reward requires at least three months of legendary patronage in good standing between major publications.)

Includes Discord rewards

Financial Freedom — I will officially be my own man. Once we've reached this goal, I'll be able to spend my time doing what I love, without having to worry about where my next meal is coming from. Thank you! It only gets better from here.
