About Lester Smith

Greetings!

In 1985, I sold a two-player board gameMind Duel—to Space Gamer Magazine. That started a full-time career in award-winning tabletop game design. Now that I’m retired, I just can’t stop! So nowadays I’m self-publishing for the pure joy of designing new games.

Every creator needs an audience to keep them both enthused and accountable. Creativity is a mix of childish excitement and adult responsibility. Without childish excitement, nothing ever gets started. Without adult responsibility, nothing ever gets finished.

Your moral support keeps me designing and publishing. My efforts aim to give you lots of fun. If this list of publications and awards is any indication, I believe you can count on it. But it’s messages from fans around the world, of time spent with friends and my games, that do me most honor.

Which means more adventures and sourcebooks for the D13 RPG and D6xD6 RPG, plus occasional offshoots like the Bookmark  HP  RPG (the "Bookmark No HP RPG").

If you're not familiar with them …
  • The D13 RPG is horror that can maim and kill, without killing a campaign. It uses a unique "d13" mechanic of d4 and d10 for actions, with tarot cards for paranormal gifts.
  • The D6xD6 RPG uses one-stat system to create literally any character in any genre within about 5 minutes. Simple on the surface, below that is a carefully tuned quasi-logarithmic system multiplying two six-sided dice.
  • The D6xD6 Dungeons RPG is a 48-page zine iteration, with a classic fantasy baseline that can again be tuned to whatever fantasy you like.
  • And the Bookmark HP RPG is a boiled down sibling of those games, using polyhedral dice in an organic way that simulates characters being worn down by combat, but also improving spontaneously by attempting actions. The whole thing literally fits on a bookmark.
  • All of these employ a "One Roll to Rule Them All"™ approach to determine success, effect, and turn order in a single toss of the dice, which keeps the action quick and exciting!
Thanks for your support. It's always appreciated, never taken for granted.

Sincerely,

Les
