This tier features a monthly audio recording, essay, or video about being an independent creator. Some months I chat with fellow artists about our craft, others I post exclusive content from classes I've taught—sometimes we'll even do a livestream Q & A!
About Lucy Bellwood
Hello!I’m Lucy Bellwood, a professional Adventure Cartoonist, author, and educator living in Portland, Oregon. Welcome to my Patreon page!
This community supports my work across a wide range of disciplines, from comics and podcasts to essays and illustration. Since I joined Patreon in 2014 I’ve been able to pursue many amazing opportunities and design my own career, all thanks to readers like you.
I’m the creator of two graphic novels: Baggywrinkles: a Lubber’s Guide to Life at Sea, an account of my time working on 18th-century replica sailing vessels, and 100 Demon Dialogues, a book about learning to sympathize with your Inner Critic. I’ve self-published several minicomics about expeditions to the Grand Canyon, Iceland, and the Pacific Ocean. I paint tiny watercolor skylines and enormous ships. I contribute short comics and visual essays to The Nib. (I also do a lot of public speaking and teaching, most of which I share for free online. You can browse all that good stuff here.)
I’m a big believer in transparency, so I’m also using Patreon to share posts that demystify money, fame, indie publishing, social media, and the creative process. Creators, especially those of us forging our own path on the internet, are currently navigating a whole new slew of challenges and questions about making sustainable work. This is my space to hash all that out in front of an intimate audience.
Whatever the subject, my work tends to be personal, enthusiastic, relatable, compassionate, and informative—and I want to make it happen with you. If that sounds like a good time, hop in and join us! I am so proud of the caring community of Patrons I've amassed since I joined this platform, and I hope to keep building it for years to come.
I can’t wait for us to make rad things together!

Making this much a month will cover all my personal expenses (rent, utilities, groceries, etc.), plus health insurance, saving for retirement, and all those other Grown-Up Costs that seem to come along with getting older. I'm aiming to use Patreon as my stable paycheck so I can make the work you want to see in the world, which means working towards a proper financial foundation!
