Minimal List is creating Narrowboat Vlogs

We have been living aboard our narrowboat and continuously cruising for over a year now, and during this time we have been documenting our travels on our YouTube channel. We try to release two videos a week; most of these are cruising vlogs, but we have also made some DIY and cooking videos. We are not experts by any means, we just enjoy sharing our experiences, and people seem to have been enjoying what we have made.

We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the amazing narrowboat community that we have been welcomed into. Not just those we meet along the Cut itself, but also all the other narrowboaters that create videos, as well as all the virtual gongoozlers that follow along and continuously support and encourage us to make more videos.

After setting aside the idea for a year, we have finally decided to set up this Patreon page. We have to a certain extent resisted this option, as we don't have a YouTube channel to try and make money, and it isn't our goal to have others fund our narrowboat life. We have always said that the community, the people we meet both online and in person, and the satisfaction we get from creating the vlogs is why we make the videos, and that remains absolutely true.

That said, there are a couple of things that have tipped the scale towards us deciding to start this Patreon.

The first is, quite simply, that a number of viewers have asked us to. We have been very fortunate to have had a lot of engagement on our YouTube comment section, and over time several viewers have actively suggested that they would like to support or thank us by way of a small gift or donation, and we thought that we would like to facilitate that.

The second is that there is a real hardware cost associated with making the vlogs. When we originally purchased the equipment to film and edit them we had an income, and so could afford to make the investment. However we are now living off savings, and as our recording and editing equipment wears out or gets wet -- which it is prone to do on a boat -- we are not going to be able to replace it. And so if we are able to collect a little money to enable us to invest in new equipment to continue improving and making the videos, that would be fantastic.

Thank you. We can't really commit to offering 'rewards' for your kind donation although we are incredibly grateful.  We do try to reply to every comment we get on YouTube, every message we receive on Facebook and every Tweet we receive. We hope that being part of the awesome Minimal List and wider narrowboat community is reward enough.
