My name is M J Porter and I write historical fiction based in Anglo Saxon England, Britain as whole during the same period, in Viking Age Scandinavia (as well as some fantasy based on Viking Age Iceland and also a little bit of sci-fi).
To date, I've sweated and toiled my way through over
True to the 'author' stereotype, I'm about a sociable as a hermit crab, would rather hide than speak about my writing in public and struggle with the word 'sales'. I do, however, enjoy maintaining my Twitter feed and sharing my love of films, music (and Formula 1 racing!). I'm not that keen on sharing an image of myself either but do like to share pictures of places I visit (normally castles - hey, I like history!)
And so to Patreon! I don't believe that authors should work for free, but neither do they need to write for millions. What writers need is a little bit of stability in their lives. I try and provide my own with my 'proper' job although I'd much rather be spending my time researching and writing, and I hope that Patreon will 'iron out' my occasional, bumpy ride. This will be especially important as I make the rather monumental leap from being an indie published author to one with a publishing contract for one of my titles - more details to follow soon.
Stop press - the publishing deal is now for 2 of my titles, and the first book Viking Sword (AKA Ealdorman) is now available on Amazon. Viking Enemy (AKA Ealdormen) is also now available, so you can read the whole series once more. Thank goodness. It's been a slow and quite tedious process!
Pareon is also a great place for me to reward my fans with sneak peeks, early access to my new books and all sorts of other news that might come my way (such as book reveals and details of forthcoming releases.)
I am also about the venture into the world of audiobooks - The First Queen of England has been narrated by Alex Lee and will be available before Christmas 2017.
I am currently working on a super secret project but I will be sharing details on Patreon when I can.
