I am Don Larson. Son or a veteran, grandson of two veterans, and brother of a veteran.
I see Americas homeless Veteran problem as a sad commentary on our Country. And especially when it is so easily fixed.
I live in an area where land is inexpensive, and creating homes for homeless veterans would be easy and free from governmental interference.
My project is “The Village”.
“The Village” is a huge project that is intended to address a disgraceful and Nationwide problem..... Homelessness in our Veteran Population
We as a Nation privately give away BILLION$ of dollars to strangers for pets, vacations, vehicles, etc....
Now I come to you for your support in creating something that will change lives.... and even SAVE LIVES.
PLEASE open your hearts to this project and donate Today.
Monies Donated will be initially used for the purchase of 80 acres of land and initial construction of 100 single occupant dwellings to house Homeless Veterans.
I have chosen my “home” geographical area for this project for many reasons.
One is certainly that I live here.
But beyond my personal influence is the meteorological, religious, political, and cultural environment that has proven itself to be VERY supportive of our military and veterans.
This region is free from harsh weather some areas endure. The area has MANY military installations and services nearby. And best of all, it is free from overbearing and overreaching governmental interferences that would inhibit the projects construction and/or success.
The residences (called hooches) will be about the same size as an efficiency apartment or hotel suite.
Construction will be “stick and brick”.
Each “Hooch” will have water/sewer, electricity, living/kitchenette, and bedroom. Furnishings will be optional and provided as necessary and available.
The Village will also feature a central operations building with a communal kitchen/mess hall, computer lab, as well as office space for residents to meet with employment, education, chaplain, health, and mental health professionals.
The Village will provide a safe and legal residence that will be used by residents to access Employment, Mail, Health and Human services, as well as tax/census/residence.
State and Local veterans service organizations will be utilized heavily for a input into in the daily operations of the Village.
Professionals with government veterans services organizations will also be able to make services available on site, but will not be able to dictate or control the project. That means more services for less cost
Funds will also be used to cover legal costs such as setting up a foundation, trust, and oversight board to administrate future operations, and routine security and maintenance until the Village can become self-sustaining.
By working OUTSIDE governmental channels this project will be able to enjoy success where other projects have failed due to regulations or location.
The Village will be organized with security and legal safeguards to prevent it from becoming what some other “shelter” or “free housing” complexes are today, and give legal protections to the project as well as the residents.
Once an applicant has been dd-214 verified, the new resident will be provided safe and comfortable housing/shelter in a community of veterans like themselves.
Residents will be expected to seek personal improvement, gainful employment, and will be expected to contribute to the betterment of The Village through community service.
The Village project goals:
0 to 5 years:
- Acquisition and preparation of land in East Central Mississippi region.
- Construction of the infrastructure water/power/sewer/driveways.
-Construction of the first 20 housing units ... “Hooches”
- Construction of the central operations facility.
5 to 10 years:
- Construction of the next 21 to 100 housing units.
- Increasing services availability to residents.
Overall future goals:
- Construction of as many more housing units as can safely be built on the property
- Sustainment of The Village for future generations.
- Continual improvement of facilities and housing.
- Assist others in creating/building similar complexes to serve those who served us.
If you can spare just $1 or $5 to this project it will be used to help those who need it most
If you cannot help at this time, PLEASE share this fundraiser and help us get the word out.
Thank You for your time...
In addition to monetary support, the project will also appreciate in the future any and all help with the following:
- Legal services
- planning and development professionals
- construction materials and labor,
Contact me with your information if you desire to contribute in this manner.
