We carry out our work in a number of ways:

An online magazine by and from People of Colour

Our progressive digital platform features comment and opinion on subjects ranging from politics, society, culture and lifestyle, with a dedicated academic space providing insight from the humanities and social sciences on today's issues.

MD Online showcases the rich diversity of journalistic and creative talent within BAME communities, and acts as a supportive space for individuals to grow and develop, whilst driving forward conversations with our engaged audience.

Publications, campaigns and events

Since we started we’ve published two books, Complicit No More and From the Lines of Dissent, created an awards ceremony for poor-quality journalism, The Trashies, launched the Bare Lit Festival of writing, and the Jhalak Prize book award. And now, we're looking towards our next event, a panel debate Freedom of speech v suppression of criticism

Help us produce our panel event: Freedom of speech v supression of criticism

We're having an event! The panel debate 'Freedom of Speech vs Suppression of Criticism' focuses on what the nebulous concept of 'free speech' actually means for the marginalised vs. the privileged in today's society. This follows the backlash to the Academy of Ideas panel event, initially titled: Is rising ethnic diversity a threat to the West? The title was changed, but the whole fiasco nevertheless underscores a troubling reality. We are now living in a time where people of colour's right to exist and enjoy basic freedoms is just another debate topic for the white journalistic establishment.

The panel in early March will examine the climate that enables such things to take place, and will explore the inequality of so-called 'free speech' that suppresses writers and voices of colour at the expense of privileging the white mainstream media.
As Brexit looms we are taking this increasingly fraught debate offline and into real space. Stay tuned for more details.

In the meantime your contribution can help us fund this event!
