MICHAEL KILBEY IS AN ENGLISH SINGER-SONGWRITER
When UK-wide Emerging Talent Competition finalists & Glastonbury 2008 performers The Franks disbanded, North London-born Michael Kilbey bid farewell to his co-writers and childhood friends, but not to the brand of dark, inspired songwriting that had so intrigued the industry judges.
The ensuing years have witnessed Kilbey quietly & carefully nurture his first full body of work as a solo artist. Drawing inspiration from a magnetism towards the night-time hours, and a romantic yet, at times, desperate sense of alienation from Earth as we know it, forthcoming debut album ‘Return To Ours’ marks a bold and adventurous musical journey.
His melodic writing has been likened to artists spanning David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Smiths, Radiohead and Jeff Buckley whilst the modern-day music fan might place him somewhere among Coldplay, Bastille and Elbow. Meanwhile, his honest, soulful and distinctly English tone of voice has drawn comparison with the late Nick Drake.
A self-taught guitarist and pianist, arrangements range from scintillating, full-borne epic rock, to more stripped away, intimate, vulnerability-exposing singer-songwriter fair. 'I believe each song creates its own world', he writes. 'Each piece should be an adventure in its own right'.
Kilbey explores the themes of time, betrayal, romance, fantasy, anxiety and de-reality. But at the heart of his writing is something more poignant still: a sense of self-conflict, of spiritual wandering and dissatisfaction - a reflective dialogue with the self. ‘My songs are mirrors. I go looking for myself in each one’, he writes in his blog.
Demos of the album released online have been quick to draw a large online fan-base, attracting a fascinated following of over 50,000 followers on Twitter in just over 9 months, and earning a guest appearance & live acoustic set on BBC 3 Counties Radio.
With BBC Radio 6 also quick to endorse his distinct sound, and his newly assembled 5-piece band cutting its teeth at such esteemed London venues as The Water Rats & The Barfly to the fervent satisfaction of live promoters, Kilbey is poised to very aptly embody the yearning voice of the so frequently dubbed ‘lost generation’.

I'm a 25 year old singer-songwriter, guitarist & pianist from North London, UK.
I've been dreaming music since the age of 4, playing music since the age of 5 and it's safe to say it's the only thing that's ever felt truly natural to me since.
I pledge to write and publish only the most sincere and emotive music.
I also love to surprise you by making unique covers of classic songs every now and then. I'm happy to take on requests too! (If they seem like a good fit ;)
Why?
For the past year I have been giving away free downloads, creating and sharing free videos and audio recordings, and sharing my lyrics online.
I would now love to be able to harness your belief in my music to make a mind-blowing, quality record for you that is professional & radio-worthy.
Everything of mine that you have heard to date has been self-produced with limited studio equipment and therefore rejected by mainstream radio, press, booking agents etc...
With your support you can fund a week with a top producer and play a part in the release of my first ever professional record!
How does it work?
Pledges are charged per published video...which means I go away into my home studio and work very hard to produce a beautiful audio recording with a video accompanying it. Below are some examples of what you can expect...

You will therefore only ever get charged for a quality piece of content that has taken a good amount of time to produce. (Minimum 10 hours - Maximum 20!)
* I will never post more than 2 videos per month. So if you are deciding what amount is sensible to pledge then I hope that's a good guide for you...
As an example, if you commit to pledge $5, you will never end up pledging more than $10 per month.
And if I don't produce a recording and video for a month (or more) for whatever reason,
then of course you are not charged a dime!
Any amount you can pledge, however small, is hugely appreciated.
There are some special rewards available for those that pledge...(see below)
