Helllooo friends. I've attached an acoustic version of a new original song "Middle Of America". I spend most of my 22nd birthday sitting around in a rather somber/ nostalgic mood and wrote this. Let me know what you think.

NASA is offering funding to visionary ideas that can be applied to transforming the future of space and aeronautics! And it only takes a 3-page white paper to apply! But not many people know this - hence my latest creation.

One of the very cool gigs I have the honor of having is serving on the External Council for the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program. NIAC nurtures visionary, sci-fi-esque ideas that could radically transform the future of space exploration. Each year, they provide funding to do the research and prototyping of these far-out ideas, which can be proposed by anyone, from tinkerer to PhD. To me, NIAC is the coolest of the many cool programs at NASA.

If that isn’t exciting enough, the NIAC External Council (NEC) is an amazing group of individuals. Members include Frank Drake, of the famous Drake Equation who pioneered the search for extraterrestrial intelligence and also created the Arecibo message; Penny Boston, who studies extremophiles and how they can inform us of potential life on Mars; David Brin, a notable science fiction author and science futurist; John G. Kramer, who is conducting experiments on quantum entanglement and authored two hard science fiction novels; and other esteemed members.

I created niacfellows.org to be a helpful quick guide to applying to NIAC, as I know NASA can *feel* intimidating. I'd personally love to see all types of people apply - neuroscientists, citizen scientists, biologists, cosmologists, roboticists, programmers, tinkerers, oceanographers, physicists, etc! The website offers an abbreviated overview of the program, how to apply, the criteria, FAQs, and some example concepts they've funded in the past.

Deadline to apply is October 8th. I'd love any help with getting the word out - the website is inherently meant to be shared!
