Hello everyone out there in the world! My name is Robert Davis. My fiance and I, Courtnae Smith, have embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship and creativity, leading with our hearts, to display a positive image of the black family! Courtnae and I have one child, together, and I have 2 from a prior relationship and we all work, together, to create a happy blended family for the benefit of all of the children.

Blended families are not uncommon, but black children's books, along with black children's book authors who contribute to those stories, are. In fact, only 3 percent of the children's books produced in America, feature black children, while only 22 percent of children's books, feature children of color.

Courtnae and I began our children's book writing journey with our series of books out of a mixture of fear, anxiety, and love: considering the fact that this was Courtnae's first child, she frequently freaked out about the changes in her body and what to expect as a first time parent. I bought Court books on natural child birth (as this was something she was interested in doing with our son, Seven), books on developmental milestones, watched tons of YouTube videos, and downloaded the Babycenter app, to track her progress, from week to week, along with our child's progress, from week to week, after Seven was born.

While Court was pregnant, we read to Seven while he was in the womb and continued doing so, after he arrived into the world. Books like, "Please Baby Please", "Whose Knees are These?" and "Brown Bear, Brown Bear", among others, were in heavy rotation because as many studies had shown to us, reading to a child while the child is in the womb, and in early infancy, increases the cognitive development of that child.

According to what we have researched, listening and speaking are the beginning building blocks that lead to reading and writing. One day, Court and I thought, "Wouldn't it be cool if we could promote early childhood literacy while taking parents down memory lane and assuaging their fears of parenthood, letting them know they are not so alone in their anxieties?" I recall asking Court, "What are some of the emotions and thoughts you had, the first time Seven was placed into your arms?" and she replied, "Well...I remember counting his fingers and toes and looking at his nose." Believe it or not, almost that exact sentence was placed in our first children's book, "Milestone Babies: Baby's First Day", which we launched in July of 2017. We also include a "From Parents to Parents" section at the end of each book, in which words of encouragement are given. For example, one of our quotable parents from "Baby's First Day", Akila Kincy writes, "No matter your exhaustion level, waking your child with kisses, hugs, and laughs, will brighten every morning."

Court and I conducted further research and found that very young children love the bright colors of children's books, along with hearing the sounds of their parents' voices, which is very soothing for them. They also love holding, chewing, and turning the pages of board books, which we have within our series; however, we also offer paper back books for older children, as well, as our 13 book series can be read by early readers up to age 8. Rhyming words have also been proven to promote auditory discrimination, phonological awareness, and it introduces children to the concept of poetry. All of these elements are found within our book series.

Courtnae and I have written 13 books, initially, with the first 2, complete (Our second book, "Milestone Babies: Month One" will be coming out in late December of 2017), and will include Seven interacting with his siblings, Robert and Savannah. Outside of the initial 13 books, we would like to grow the children within our series, so that they may grow with their audience and eventually, have young adult material available which sees all 3 of the children encounter fun Scooby-Doo/Hardy Boys-esque mysteries. We also desire to have an alternative medium, featuring all 3 children, within the realm of comic books and eventually, animation that caters to the infant to toddler crowd, based on the first 13 books.

Aside from launching our first book in July of this year, we also have been able to work on another mission of ours, concerning giving back to the community we live in, here in St Louis, Missouri. Thanks to wonderful local sponsors, we have been able to donate numerous books to our local area children centered hospitals, as well as to one of the local Ronald McDonald Houses. Beginning in mid-November, we are hopeful to be begin a campaign in which we donate a portion of our proceeds of every book we sell to a local area school program, in St Louis. Eventually, we would also like to begin a "adopt a family" campaign for the holiday seasons, each year and we would also like to begin donating books to families who may not be able to afford them for their children.

This is where you come in. We need help to make this dream continue and to allow us to continue to produce our children's books, comic books, and animation series, so that we may give back in a multitude of ways. Thank you for your time and we hope to have your support.
