Thank you for joining us on our patreon page where we hope you will become part of our growing community. The Moot are Clare, who sings and plays electric guitar and Eryl who plays percussion and traditional drum-kit. We are a professional live music and busking duo based in Scotland.
In 2005 we formed in South West Scotland as a duo playing mainly original music, mixed in with a few cover songs to fatten out the set. Having struggled to kind gigs in rural Scotland we decided to move back to Yorkshire England, settling in the Pennine village of Marsden. Things were going well, we had built up a good reputation, then the smoking ban came into force and the pubs started to struggle to re-book bands.
After a minor 'Oh My what are we going to do?' moment we tried opening a small shop in the village. The turn over was slow to say the least, and one day our friend Rachelle suggested that she ran the shop whilst we went busking. We jumped at the chance, and left the next day. Making more money and having a lot more fun in the same amount of time the shop was open, somewhat answered the question - 'Oh My what are we going to do now?' We stuck a sign on the shop window that read 'Sorry shop closed, Gone Busking' and never looked back.
In 2011 we were joined on the streets by our busking partner and professional bottler Lucy the Dalmatian.
Clare and I are back in Scotland, we still play gigs and love to play at pubs, events, weddings etc. Some of our favourite gigs are the when we perform at community and charity events and are able to interact with people.
The ability to express yourself in a truly free way comes only on the street as a professional busker, where we are lucky enough to meet people from all walks of life, share special moments with them and hear some of their stories, cheer them up when they are low. We stream our busking sessions live on our Facebook page and are loving being able to interact with so many people. The streaming is fantastic not only at the time when we are interacting with you, but by tuning in and interacting with us, you are all motivating us to keep going.
With your support we would like to be able to free up more time to dedicate to charities and community groups and to help other people. It also enables us to free up time to be creative and write some new songs, to collaborate with other people such as the work we have been doing the Poet Dawn Bland, who writes poetry to raise awareness about mental health issues and homelessness. Clare has also been making guitar lessons on her Youtube Channel for over 10 years.
In 2012 a fellow busker Jonny Walker began highlighting issues that affect buskers in the UK, particularly the draconian regulations various local authorities were trying or indeed introducing, which meant and continues to mean that Street Culture in the UK is under threat.
Jonny Walker established the Keep Streets Live organisation to fight for the rights of buskers and street culture. Devastatingly to many of us Jonny passed away in March 2018. We are trying to keep Jonny's legacy alive and to Keep Streets Live, your support as a patreon will also enable us to free up time to help the Keep Street Live Team.
