So Why Make A Patreon?

How's it going guys? My name is MotardSteve and I've been a motorcycle based content creator on YouTube for the last 3 years. Over that time YouTube has rolled out many automatic systems to govern what content should and should not be deemed appropriate for monetization. Which I'd be fine with if it actually worked and didn't use the most sensitive algorithm in the universe.

Why Is This A Problem?

Say a curse word, talk about a touchy current event, make a crude or dark joke, have something crazy happen to you on the bike, etc? You can bet your video will have its ad revenue stripped from it and thus have its likelihood to be suggested to viewers because YT can't make money from it, so it is no longer part of it's money making priority. This is very demoralizing to content creators not only because it affects their financial burdens, but because suddenly they are making less money at no fault of their own (A Huge Issue for Full Time Creators.)

How Does This Affect Smaller Channels Such As My Own?

The big guys aren't the only ones affected by this though, sure we may not make enough money to up and quit our 9-5 jobs, but a huge problem is YT is in the business of making money. They do this by displaying and selling advertisements on videos. Once your video is flagged for demonetization, you will notice that your numbers and suggested percentages absolutely tank. This means that YT purposely blacklists your video and it makes it more difficult to reach your target audience which in turn results in hindered growth of your channel.

Family Friendly Mandate Stifles Creativity

So with YT basically having a monopoly on the genre of video sharing sites, small creators have no wheres else to turn. So it's either censor yourself, tailor and water down your content to a more "family friendly" style and ultimately change the way you and your audience enjoy your videos.

Giving YouTube The Middle Finger

So this is why I've chose to create a Patreon. With the only tier being a dollar per video (which you can cap to whatever you want monthly to suit your preference) its a lot more help then relying on ad revenue from YT. Ultimately I make the content I do because I enjoy it, but everyone knows nothing in life is free. Gas, replacement parts, new gear to replace the old worn out stuff, cameras, tripods, mics, and etc. It all adds to the bottom line, so having a little revenue stream to kick back into the channel not only helps the channel continue to grow and progress, but also means extra cash to use to give back to the fans with giveaway items and such.

What If You Can't Or Don't Want To Give $1?

I will never make someone feel like they have to pay me anything to keep viewing the content they have come to enjoy (I'm not Electronic Arts...) Regardless if you choose to donate or not my content will always be on YouTube like business as usual, but people that do choose to support will gain some added benefits as they are detailed in the Rewards section.

If you made it this far, regardless of your choice or opinion on all of this, I truly thank you for taking the time to hear me out. ♥ ❤ ♥
