What is Patreon and why do you use it?

Patreon is like a "tip jar" for content creators. It is a place for those of you who want to help support what I’m doing on the  Movie Studio Zen YouTube channelwebsite and forum.

If you're not familiar with Patreon, the concept is that you support a creator financially for each piece of valuable content they create for you. In my case, it's videos, tutorials and support for how to use Sony Vegas Pro, Movie Studio Platinum, DVD Architect and much, much more.

I know that I am providing a valuable service and that many of you appreciate what I do and the help that I constantly give out for free. To continue doing what I love to do, I need to create some long-term financial sustainability for my business. Not having to worry about money, will give me more energy and focus for creating the type of fresh content that people have been asking for.

How does it work?

Every month I plan to publish about 4 YouTube video tutorials to the  Movie Studio Zen channel, as well as writing in-depth supporting articles for each tutorial, on the website. Each time I do so, I will share that YouTube tutorial here and mark it as a piece of content that you're supporting. The number of tutorials I publish that month, determines how much you contribute.
  1. If you pledge $1 per video tutorial & article and that month I publish 4 videos, you'll contribute $4 for that month.
  2. If you pledge $3 per video tutorial & article and that month I publish 4 videos, you'll contribute $12 for that month.
  3. If you pledge $10 per video tutorial & article and that month I publish 4 videos, you'll contribute $40 for that month.
  4. If you pledge $25 per video tutorial & article and that month I publish 4 videos, you'll contribute $100 for that month.
If I do not create any new content during the month, no one will get charged a single cent.

If you're concerned about going over your budget, you can easily set a monthly contribution limit when you're entering your payment info. That way there's no surprises at the end of the month.

For example, you can pledge $10 per YouTube tutorial, get access to the rewards at that tier, but cap your monthly contribution limit to $10, thus supporting 1 YouTube training that month.

Please don't worry about missing out on any content either. You will still continue to get my YouTube video tutorials just like you always have, even if I publish additional YouTube video tutorials that go beyond your maximum contribution limit for the month.

What are the Reward Levels?

Each Level unlocks different Rewards. The more you contribute for each piece of content I produce, the more rewards you will be given as a way of me showing gratitude for your support.

$1/video You will have access to my patron only feed, Q&A priority, voting rights and any project files used in tutorials.

$3/video You will have access to my patron only feed, Q&A priority, voting rights, project files used in tutorials, suggest new tutorial topics which everyone will vote on, your name/channel name will be listed as a contributor in video credits, and you will be invited to a private monthly Q&A session on a Google Hangout.

$10/video You will have access to my patron only feed, Q&A priority, voting rights, project files used in tutorials, suggest new tutorial topics which everyone will vote on, your name/channel name will be listed as a contributor in video credits, you will be invited to a private monthly Q&A session on a Google Hangout, you can request a custom made tutorial on a topic of your choice, and will get a discount on all new premium training courses coming soon to Movie Studio Zen.

$25/video You will have access to my patron only feed, Q&A priority, voting rights, project files used in tutorials, suggest new tutorial topics which everyone will vote on, your name/channel name will be listed as a contributor in video credits, you will be invited to a private monthly Q&A session on a Google Hangout, you can request a custom made tutorial on a topic of your choice, will get an extra special discount on all new premium training courses coming soon to Movie Studio Zen, and get to have a private one on one training session with Derek over Skype.

Where does my money go?

As you know, it takes time and resources to create great content, both which require money. Your support energises my creativity and helps to keep me focused on making the type of content people are actually asking for. You also help to keep the lights on at Movie Studio Zen. As our community keeps growing, so does the day to day bills for maintaining the website, forum, studio and other business expenses.

I don't have money to support this!

No problem at all! Please don't become a patron if you're low on money or are struggling financially. I know what that feels like and want you to take care of more important priorities first.

I don't have much money, can I still become a Patron?

Yes, please only sign up to donate what you can easily afford. Even $1 per video I upload will make a huge difference and would be greatly appreciated. :)

Can I stop donating in the future if I can't afford it?

Yes of course! If you can't afford to donate in the future, or you need to donate less that's absolutely fine. You can just log in to change or cancel the account whenever you want.

Do I have to pay in US Dollars?

Because Patreon is a USA based website, everything is written in $US dollars, but you can use any currency and it will be automatically converted. If you live in a country outside of the USA like England, Canada or Australia for example, you can pay using your local currency, however your payment will be converted into $US dollars with the current exchange rate on that day.

Check your countries Exchange Rate with the USA

I live in Australia, so whenever I buy a product or service from the USA, I always check the exchange rate before I make a purchase. Google "USD to your countries currency code" and you will be able to calculate what your pledge will actually cost you per video. If you are unhappy about the exchange rate difference, I suggest you limit the amount you pledge each month, that way you gain back control over how much you spend.

Who are you and what is your background?

My name is  Derek Moran and I have been making tutorials about how to use Sony Movie Studio Platinum and Vegas Pro, since 2008. When I taught myself how to use Sony Movie Studio Platinum in 2008, there were hardly any good video tutorials to watch. It was incredibly frustrating to find solutions to basic problems and I chucked in the towel over and over again. I abandoned the program for a few months, but when I came back one last time, I experienced a massive "A-Ha" moment and suddenly it all made sense. At the same time I realised there must have been many other people feeling the same way and wanting to give up. This gave birth to Movie Studio Zen and I began to teach how to use the program.

Painting is my number one passion. The picture above is the first large painting I ever completed and it is titled "Rainbow Serpent Awakens". I have had a serious health problem all my life, which has shaped the person I am today. I live simply, enjoy being of service and try to radiate peace and calmness.

This is Movie Studio Zen.

Thank you for your support! I really do appreciate it :)
