MY STORY

My name is Nikole Potulsky, I am a singer-songwriter. I mostly write folk and country songs but one reviewer said, "Nikole has the voice for stadiums and the heart for dive bars." Whatever genre that is, I'll take it.

I’m raising two kids in Portland, Oregon and while it’s quite the juggling act to lead a family, make a living, make art, and make a name for myself in the music business, I have learned that when I ask for support, and then I accept the support that is offered, miracles can happen.

For example, in June of 2017, with crowdfunding support from you —my friends, family, and fans— I released my first album  You Want to Know About Me. Within weeks of the release, I was interviewed by regional and national magazines, interviewed by European radio stations, my songs were played in South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia, and strangers stopped my mom in the bank back home to tell her they were cheering me on. By September, I was meeting with Nashville executives and playing my songs in a room surrounded by platinum records. It was a stunning experience.

Over the last year, I have learned a lot about myself as a mother, an artist, and an activist. I knew that my music had healed me but I had no idea that my stories, and my songs, could heal other people too. It is such a blessing to hear stories from my fans and listeners, keep em coming, please.

I’ve got songwriting opportunities in Nashville, cool gigs in Austin, and a second album ready to record. I am working on essays for a memoir, youth songwriting projects, and maybe even a podcast. I am forging ahead in developing all of these projects and I need your help to carry them to the finish line.

What is Patreon?
Patreon is a way to support artists directly, sort of a digital modern day patron-of-the-arts. But instead of the old model of one major patron, this a way for lots of people to come together to become a bedrock of support for artists like me.

Why do you need patrons?
The music industry has radically changed in the last decade. Most people prefer to use streaming services nowadays. This means fewer resources are available for artists to keep making art! The upside is that there are also lots of digital opportunities to support artists around the world. So here I am.

How can I help?
There are so many ways, one way is to become a Patron. Pledging at any level helps me greatly! Some people send donations via mail or PayPal where there are no fees.

Can I make a one-time contribution?
Absolutely! You can always donate on the homepage of my website www.NikolePotulsky.com or send a contribution to PayPal.me/NikoleP

Thank you for reading my story and if you chose to become a patron, thank you for supporting independent art and for being on my team. I hear it takes a village.

May your generosity be returned to you 1000 times.

Love,
Nikole

Dream Big
$5 or more per month
Once upon time, I made all of my money from a tip jar playing in dive bars and street corners.  I'll never forget the first time someone gave me a $5 bill, he was an old man in a cowboy hat with a cane and when he handed it to me he said, "I'll be seeing you on Austin City Limits."  I was twenty-five years old and that $5 bill has been in my guitar case ever since.

Each and every contribution helps keep the lights on around here, keeps my hopes up, keeps the dream alive.  Hell, with enough $5 tips, we might see that cowboy in Austin after all!

Your contribution gives you an invitation to my online Patron Community where I'll be chronicling the evolution of my journey as a musician, starting with writing the songs for my next record.

P.S. This photo was taken that same day.

Magic
$10 or more per month
Songwriting comes from many sources. I'll hear a complex story and experiment with verses until I know I've exposed some important truth. Other times, I write a song as a way to remember someone who has passed, or about a time of my life that haunts me. Every now and then a full song will arrive in a flash and I have to rush to get the words out of my mind and onto the page.

It is one part magic and one part craft.

At this tier you will also receive an invitation to my Patron Community with access to all of my Patreon exclusive videos that will chronicle the journey to my next album and where I will share with the back-stories of the songs.

Your contribution will feed deep listening, the search for good stories, for healing, and important truths.

Hard Work
$25 or more per month
The song's that arrive fully finished in a flash are such a gift, but they are rare. Contributing at this level supports the work that comes after inspiration. This is work of transforming an idea into something manifest in our world.

With your contribution you will become a member of my Art Accountability Team and I will share video clips with incomplete songs and that will help me set deadlines to finish them. You will also receive an invitation to my online Patron Community where I'll be chronicling the evolution of my journey, starting with writing the songs for my next record.

Hustle
$50 or more per month
Arts funding is hard to come by, but there are some scholarships for workshops and writing residencies, small grants for continued education, and a few for artist support.

Funding at this level gives me the time to search for more funding opportunities, collaborations, major donors, and grants.

In gratitude for your contribution, you become a member of my team. I will keep you in the loop on my journey, AND I will start adding links to Artist Support Resources that you can share with other artists beyond this community.

The Stage!
$75 or more per month
I love playing music on stage but a lot of the time, it costs me more money than I actually make for the show. Venues take a big cut and I pay a fair wage to backup performers. When you pledge at this level, you help subsidize the cost of public performances, one $75 contribution pays for a fiddler!

In gratitude for your contribution, you are warmly invited to join my Patron Community where I will be posting about my journey AND, I will send you 4 vouchers for my live performances that will never expire.

Family Time
$100 or more per month
I learned the hard way that I can't do it all, at least not all at once. Actually, I got an even better lesson than that, I learned it's not a happy life to be striving to the finish line ALL of the time, to constantly be rushing to go, fight, win.  Self care is crucial for long term success.

At this level, you will be supporting a break here and there, maybe a music camp for my kids, maybe I could save up for a songwriting retreat or a roadtrip with my kids where we could head to a place and dream a little bit, rest, just breathe.

In deepest gratitude for your support, you  become a member of my team AND, my kids and I will send you thank you notes. Real ones. In the actual mail and maybe every now and then, I'll be able to get them to let me video one of our family jam sessions.

Business Partner
$250 or more per month
$250 is a roundtrip ticket to LA, and nearly a ticket to Nashville or Austin. Those cities matter because that is where songwriters converge to improve our craft, where producers listen for music for television and film, where big stars  (like Miranda Lambert for example) meet new collaborators for their next hit single.

We all know that talent alone does not open those doors, people do. It takes real relationship building and to get that done, I need  to be there in person every now and then, meeting new people and building my network.

Your generous contribution gets me one step closer to long term sustainable success as an artist.

In deepest gratitude for your support, you will become a member of my team, receive all benefits from the previous tiers, AND I will send you an annual business report that will concisely outline how I used your support, along with the support of our community, to move my career forward.
