So, as you may have guessed, my name is Neil Herndon. I am a best-selling author with novels in several genres. I have a Masters Degree in creative writing. I'm a contributor at Forbes.com, my work has been seen at USAToday.com, and I've been the subject of an article at Publishers Weekly. Before entering high school, I won the Illinois Young Authors short-story competition four times.

I have extensive workshop experience, helping other authors find imperfections and plot holes in their work, as well as seeking to remedy issues in my own. This, combined with my advanced degree, my publishing history, as well as a healthy addiction to movies, TV, and video games, has given me the tools to identify and accentuate traits that make a good story great.

This Patreon is about helping you write. Have you always wanted to write a novel? Do you have a project in the works and need some help? Let me lend a hand.

As publishing reaches wider markets across new technology, it's easier than ever for an author to get their work out to the masses. Along the way, everyone, including myself, could use some assistance. A good ear to bounce ideas off of, working out a story issue, or for some, build from the ground up. Whether your project is already going, you haven't started, or simply don't know how to begin, my tips will give you an edge. At the higher levels, you get all the benefits of an advanced degree without the hassle of going to school.

There's a lot more to writing a full-length novel than most people realize. Point-of-view, genre, character, story arc, conflict, resolution, sequels, outlines, dialogue, the ending, detail, setting, description, style, and probably ten more vital components, each of which requires understanding and proficiency in order to use them properly.

Think of this as a masters class for writing. The more you pay, the more in-depth your class will be. Don't need that much help? That's fine. Ready to dive into the deep end of the pool? Sign up. Questions will be answered. Journeys will be taken. How far we go is limited only by your imagination.

You don't have to get a fancy degree to be a great writer, but that doesn't mean you can't get a little help along the way.

Looking for a little more? These tips and essential tricks will help you craft a more well-rounded story. You'll have access to the quick tips as well, building up a repertoire of helpful hints. No matter the genre, they'll give you a leg up on the writing process.
Author in the making
$10 or more per month
Facts, tips, and tidbits not enough for you? Time to get serious. Once a week, I'll create an entry intended to walk you through a particular aspect of writing. It could be character development, believable dialogue, story arc, or one of dozens of other topics related to perfecting the craft of fiction. You'll also get access to the lower tiers as well.
Author in Training
$20 or more per month
Now we're getting into the true craft. Instead of one weekly lesson on the various puzzle pieces that make up writing fiction, you get two. That's twice the information, plus all the tips and tricks.
Master Class
$30 or more per month
In addition to everything from the lower tiers, you have access to a bi-monthly (twice a month) in-depth lesson. I'll break down two topics that were briefly discussed throughout the month and cover them in much greater detail.
Master Class Plus
$35 or more per month
In addition to access to everything from the lower tiers, this tier has the added feature of a monthly Q&A session. At the end of every month, I'll answer questions about the writing process direct from you. Anything you want to know, within reason, of course.
Seeker of Knowledge
$50 or more per month
You take your craft seriously. Very seriously. In addition to all the tips and tricks and lessons from the lower tiers, you get private assistance on a personal project, maybe more than one. What does this mean? I'm your story editor. No matter the style or genre, we will work together to create the best novel possible. Be aware, I take my craft seriously as well, which means sessions might feel like boot camp. But they payoff is worth it.

Writer at Work
$75 or more per month
This tier is unique. In addition to everything from the lower tiers, you'll get four additional extras per month. Once a week, I will provide an assignment, something that goes beyond the standard writing prompt. Each could be simple or complex, but each one will help add depth to your writing. They will include things like, 'List five adjectives then for each list five uncommon synonyms' and 'Develop a character in a scene without using descriptions.'
Patron Saint
$100 or more per month
Only the dedicated need apply. At this level, things change. With the help your generous patronage, I will create a compendium of knowledge for writing great fiction. This will be a guaranteed publication, a book that offers more than just the basics like others on the market. Before it hits shelves, digital or physical, you'll get an advanced copy and your name will be among those who get a special thanks.

Please note: Copies will be sent out in groups and not one at a time.
Goals
5% complete
Once I reach $500 per month, I'll start a podcast series where I discuss projects in the works with 1 patron every month. During this podcast, I'll ask questions about the project, answer questions, and offer suggestions.
