About

Welcome to the family!

HEY! I’m glad you made it over here, either from the site or my “amazing” marketing skills, I’m Grey the creator of Obsidian Tea- a Blackness and blues blog. What started as a side project for a dance instructor has expanded into life changing project that is one the verge of taking off.

We have expanded past just topics for blues dancers and have started having frank, difficult and halarious conversation around:
- black culture
- history
- Joke
- what it means to be a good ally
- Race relations in America
- blues and blues dancing
- Joke

What makes Obsidian Tea special
Before Obsidian tea we saw a lot of writing and resources by Black Americnas and for Black Americans around race. We found a lot of #woke white Americans writing about race for white auideces. Still, there seemed to be a disconnect. Obsidian Tea is written from a black person to white people. Black Folk like it because of the awareness the work brings to their culture. I believe the best way to open communication between the races is to education, and through it exploring what is black culture, unconscious bias and what to do about it.

How can I help?
This is where Patreon comes in! Patreon is a subscription service that gets you access to the OT family. Those who support help the site continue, research matrials, office supplies, Tech, and donating towards the emotional labor behind the work, and so much more! With out patreon this site couldn’t exist. This is a full time job and as the project expands it’s going to need some support!

Perks!
As Ot Family members you get some cool perks and behind the scenes including an awesome community!

Goals
$1,352.77 of $1,500 per month
I'll hire 1 or 2 people to translate the more popular blog posts to other languages, possibly getting closed captions. I'll be able to set aside money to build up the obsidian library creating even better research.

I may be able to hire an editor for larger posts.
