Alongside my own writing, I have a personal mission to empower other creatives through digital publishing and creative business.
So this Patreon page does two things:
- gives my own poetry patrons first reading of my new poems, and other exclusive poetry bonuses and benefits.
- provides advice to other poets, or aspiring poets, on how to use Patreon to earn a living from writing poetry.
People power is rocking poetry, taking it out into the streets and pubs and festivals. Can people-power also offer poets creative and financial freedom, through crowdsourced micro-payments? With your help, I'm hoping we can answer that question with a resounding: YES.
Why We Need PoetryThe world needs more poetry. A poem that works is a sliver of magic, transporting us beyond the conventional, the everyday, the mundane.
Poems invite us to pay creative attention, to wake up, to enter the imaginal, the world of dreams and imagination, the world of insights and inspiration.
A good poem comes at us sideways, catches us by surprise, drops us into that place beyond place: the creative space between the words.
It does this by detailing what's physically true. A good poem will always have strong images, not just abstract thoughts. And a unifying theme, not just random sense impressions.
That's the magic. Inner and outer Illuminated together: that's poetry
Poetry returns us to ourselves. Our whole selves. Our true selves.
Why I Write PoetryHere is the poem I've written for my readers and patrons which explains the writing mission I am asking you to support:
The Writer’s Call: A Poem For My Patrons
Your words must clear the ground for love,
I heard it all declare.
I kissed my pen, swore this decree to air.
Then set to work on bended knee,
a childlike creep through house and street,
to clean through what’s encrusted there.
It’s done for you, kind reader, dear,
who walks my words across the page,
who seeks clear space in marks I make:
that glisten in your gleaning eye,
that shines with mine, us both to see
how in the clearing, all can be.
You will receive a film poem and audio version of "The Writer's Call", immediately on signing up as a patron at any level, PLUS my new poems exclusively to your inbox months in advance of being published elsewhere.
All patrons, beginning at the $1 tier, receive this poetry and then there are escalating options for those who would like more (see rewards, right).
If you do decide to become a patron today, please accept my endless appreciation for your support and encouragement of my work... and for your love of poetry.
