Welcome!

My Patreon page allows you to access free content, or see more for a small fee.

I have two types of content: a current affairs blog, and artistic works.

The current affairs blog covers UK politics, social and cultural issues and some international affairs. It's free.

Why read me?

I worked in the UK House of Commons for 26 years as an impartial researcher covering foreign affairs and, later, UK constitutional matters. I briefed MPs of all parties on legislation as it was going through the House, on issues raised by constituents, and on major events such as the Rwandan genocide, legal matters concerning the Iraq War, and the Scottish independence referendum.

My blog here is a touch more opinionated than I could do in that job!

You can see examples of my work on the Parliament website, for instance:

The European Union (Withdrawal) Bill: Devolution, 24 November 2017

Or on Amazon:

Members of Parliament 1979-2010, 2011 (editor)

I offer a non-lobbying service to organisations that want to contact Parliament. If you are interested in my advice on how to get your views/concerns across, or in a workshop on dealing with MPs etc, please let me know. I will talk to small charities for free.

If you wish to contact me, but don't want to register on Patreon to leave a comment, try pandaregained AT aol.com.

The artistic stuff is a mix of photos, writing and music

I shoot photographs on film, with manual focus/manual exposure cameras (plus a small number of point and shoots).

I have won prizes for my short fiction, and have published a small amount of poetry (I'm currently in the Momaya Poetry Review 2018!). I also have a self-published full length work of fiction, The Panda Chronicles

The music is a relatively new venture, or at least recording it is! But I've been playing guitar since 1978, and writing in earnest since 2012. My first project is a suite of songs about the refugee crisis.

In the past, I've made a couple of short films as writer/director, and my academic background is a PhD in social anthropology, based on fieldwork in Jamaica.

Do drop by from time to time to check out the free content, which will build over the first couple of months. Then I'll demand vast sums of money to let you into the extra content ...
