I've always loved art, like nearly everyone else on the planet...
My second love is space science/exploration.
I struggled with finding the ways to find a place for art in the harsh realities of cranking out a workable life.
As a kid in school I would win awards for my pieces, and even had my own show at a local bank. I received a scholarship to art school, and it was then my parents sat me down to explain the harsh realities of life - that I "could never make a living with art". So off I went to college for engineering. Then off to the Air Force. Then time to start a family... and like everyone else my dreams lied buried in dust in the back of my mind.
I was lucky to find myself working for a newspaper where I found opportunities to attend NASA Open Houses and launch events to cover them as a member of the press. That helped a little.
It also later helped to work for Colonial Williamsburg, doing illustrations for their publications department. Since then I've created logos for businesses and cover art for books.
My child is grown up now and, though most of my time is spent helping her family run a farm, I am finally making time to dust off my dreams.
So what do I want to choose as subject matter for my art?
Well - at least for the foreseeable future - that would be my other love, space exploration!
I hope you enjoy my pieces. Follow along as I try new approaches, and share tips and techniques I discover along the way.
