About Maria Photinakis
Much of my work explores grief and trauma based on events in my life, and I'd like to finish my graphic novel Benedictions, which explores these concepts, to help others who may be experiencing similar things. I need your help to make that happen.
I'm looking for help from Patrons to help me create my work: Through your financial support I'll be able to bring my graphic novel Benedictions to fruition.
Benedictions draws upon my personal experience in the last year, where I went through two life-shattering events in less than 12 months: Losing my father and becoming a parent myself.
I'm treating my time focused on this series creation as an at-home residency*, where I will be spending dedicated time to the creation of the graphic novel, as well as ongoing process documentation to hold myself accountable and to mark my progress.
With Patron support, I hope get a lot more productivity and accountability out of my studio practice and completing my graphic novel Benedictions.
What does your patronage do for me?
I work as both a freelancer and a studio artist. Currently, the balancing act between time spent on design ($$$!) and time spent on art ($???) is in constant conflict. A concrete studio art income—of any size—will allow me to work towards my long-term goal of financial security as a professional artist.
Your financial support has real, material impact on what I can create and the tools available to me. Any support I receive opens up new possibilities for the materials I can use in creating my works, equipment to record the process and document my progress, as well as help me foot the bill for any and all printing costs, promotional material, and other expenses to get my work into cons and shows.
The Patrons who invest in this program will be forming a partnership with me. While we won’t be working together on the actual art, we will be working together to make a mutual investment in the success of my art.
*I am drawing my inspiration for this from Lenka Clayton's Artist Residency in Motherhood.
