About Plastic Soup Surfer

Merijn Tinga is a surfer, biologist and artist.

As the Plastic Soup Surfer he paddles, kiteboards and windsurfs against the tide on surfboards made from plastic litter to draw attention to the problem of plastic pollution and bring about real solutions. He focusses the attention on legislators and company CEOs to bring about change at desicion making level.

He was recently ranked #85 in the Dutch Sustainable Top 100 for his push towards deposits in the Netherlands. He has just finished a new documentary about the role plastic plays in our society; ‘Plastic Paradox’ (63min 2019 dir. Eelke Dekker). This film is a follow up to ‘From Source To Sea’ (49min 2018 dir. Eelke Dekker).

When I reach 500 patrons I’ll hire an editor to help me document my upcoming expedition and the creation of the plastic-soup board and associated anti-plastic pollution campaign.
