To the Right Honorable Henry Wriothesley
Earl of Southampton & Baron of Titchfield

The love I dedicate to your Lordship is without end; whereof this pamphlet without beginning is but a superfluous moiety. The warrant I have of your honorable disposition, not the worth of my untutored lines, makes it assured of acceptance.

What I have done is yours, what I have to do is yours, being part in all I have, devoted yours. Were my worth greater, my duty would show greater; meantime, as it is, it is bound to your Lordship, to whom I wish long life still lengthened with all happiness.

Your Lordship's in all duty,

William Shakespeare

Many writers have also worked for a living, and with good effect. They found ways to write, and to write a great deal, and indeed to write a great deal worth reading today.

I am fortunate to work, and grateful for the labor, and finding ways to write, and to write a great deal, and, Lord willing and the river don't rise, a great deal worth reading tomorrow.

Working and writing requires one to be disciplined and creative — the best compliment I've ever heard offered to an artist, and one I will be worthy of, as well. And I've always liked the number 17.

Your support will goad me onward to write and write and write and write. And to expand my reasons for gratitude, along with an expanded capacity for thanks, and ever more greater discipline and creativity.
