Hello from Grant at  Ragh Guitar in Scotland!
.
Ragh Guitar  started roughly 11 years ago from a small shed in a garden and grew into a successful business ,shipping guitars all over the planet. It's just me and my family, "Ragh" is the initials of my wife, kids and Gordon the dog. It's crazy how far the wee business has come in a few years. Inspired by that I've decided to chase the next life goal...

It's always been a dream of mine to write a book based on guitar building techniques, and Patreon will support that via downloadable, pictured guides, which eventually will become a fully published book. The frequency of downloads will increase with support, and all will be easy to follow, and cover all sorts from technical aspects of building to guitar setups.

I've always written guides for my own use in the workshop, and frequently refer to them no matter how many times I've done something. A chance discussion lead to "You should turn that into a book!". So i begun to take pictures and add them to my notes, and it was nothing more than a private project but I've been encouraged to go for it by those close to me, and those not so close via social media.

I seem to have a talent for explaining things (which i didn't know i had!), and the book will be based round the Weekend guitar builder with lots of "Why we do this...." explanations. I have a million reference books which show you how to to something but don't actually explain what the end goal is supposed to be. So the emphasis is on the simple and straightforward ways of doing complicated things.  And pictures, LOTS of pictures.

I guess the whole thing will take about a year, and Patrons will get the drafts of each section as it's completed, and encouraged to tell me what's good and what's not so good.  All i can say is there will be at least 2 sections a month, it'll be very time consuming and i still have guitars to build. The draft sections  will get better and better over the months as we work out how the book flows and looks, you can help it evolve into something amazing and  i'd love it to be a real group effort.

Every Patreon will be credited in the final book, and receive a copy, because it will be OUR book, not mine.

The book will be in a Ring Binder format, with Glue proof Paper ( yes it exists, i've looked into it) . It'll be designed to sit right on your workbench and not worry about spilling things on it. I've thought a lot about it from past experience as you can tell....

I'd be truly greatful if you think it's worth supporting, it will not be quick and there will be learning curve, but it will be fun. Things are always fun when they're difficult

I hope you'll join me with my ambitious project, i can't do it without you

Cheers

Tiers
Guitar Building Book
$5 or more per month
Access to draft sections of the Ragh Guitar Building Book as they are completed.  2 sections per month, and all Patrons will be credited in the final book

The sections included in the initial plan (there will be more!) -

- Making a Scarf Joint

- How to Radius a Fretboard

- Neck carving

- Routing techniques

- Technical aspects of design

- Tools

- Pickup selection

- Mistakes to avoid

- Timber selection

Everything will be fully pictured, with easy to follow steps, focusing on "why" we do things, as well as "how".

It's a huge task producing the book alongside running the business so any Patreon support is greatly appreciated. Initially there will be 2 sections a month, but the more support, the quicker it'll be finished.

Thanks for considering supporting a "bucket list" dream to actually write a book, I cant do it without you

Cheers

Goals
4 of 50 patrons
50 Patrons would be incredible and free up a few days a month entirely to devote to the book. Things like editing the workflow, thinking of better ways to explain things, and even invest in some professional photography.
