Who are we?

Ready Steady Cut was established in 2017 as a one-man podcast by our founder and EIC Daniel Hart. He swiftly and wisely realised that nobody would be interested in that, and now, only a year or so later, we’re a diverse, ever-expanding team from all over the world, managing a website, a podcast, a YouTube channel, and countless other projects.

It has been a little crazy.

In that time we have rapidly increased our subscribers, pulled in a million readers, formed PR relationships, been given press access to festivals and screenings, and become a go-to place for timely, original content covering film, TV, video games, comics and culture.

Why Patreon?

Currently, we are supported entirely by advertising revenue. It’s a pittance, but it’s enough to keep the lights on. But it doesn’t make for a great experience for the end-user, and ideally we’d like to move away from that model. We believe in delivering no-nonsense independent content to an audience who appreciate such things, and with Patreon, that audience is able to contribute directly if they’d like to.

We already pay the overheads out of our own pockets and the tight-fisted ad system. But we want to pay our devoted contributors, who currently work hard for free. We’d like to develop our website, implement new features, and start new projects. We’d like to work on Ready Steady Cut full-time and deliver more of the content that people have come to love over the last year.
You can help us do that if you feel like it.

What do I get for my money?

Any donations will support all of the projects under the Ready Steady Cut umbrella.

Our website. Updated several times daily, covering the latest film and TV, including same-day coverage of all the latest exclusive releases on streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. No other site does this – at least not that we’re aware of. The site also includes original features, news, long-form analysis, and all kinds of other stuff.

Our weekly film podcast. Hosted by Dan and our senior writer and Editor Jonathon Wilson, our flagship show continues to grow and improve. In includes in-depth discussions on film, reactions to the latest news in pop-culture, reviews, interviews, and silly stuff. We also occasionally release bonus episodes that can include guests, games, or themed discussions.

Our YouTube channel. Currently hosted by Dan, our video content includes trailer reactions, discussions of hot topics, and reviews.

With your donations, all of this stuff will improve. We’d like to enhance the website. We’d like to start other podcasts on different topics. We’d like to churn out more video content at a higher quality. So, that’s where your money would be going.

Anything else?

We believe in full disclosure, and as such, any changes to this dynamic, to our work, or to our sources of income, will be declared here. Currently, all of our work is self-funded or ad-supported. We have no partnerships or deals. We have no on-going relationships with companies that would lead to conflicts of interest. We are entirely independent, and beholden only to our audience.
If you’d like to know more, we will cheerfully discuss it.

There aren’t any tiers or goals. We only want your support if you’d like to give it. And whether you do or you don’t, thank you. Thank you for reading, and for taking the time to support us in any way. You’re the reason we started this business in the first place, you’re the reason we have kept it going, and you’re the reason we have enjoyed such tremendous success thus far. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Long may it continue.

We don’t have any reward tiers. We haven’t and will never set up any paywalls to lock off any of our content, and we won’t try and trick people into ponying up their own cash to get access to exclusive stuff.

If you enjoy our content, on the website, the podcast, social media or YouTube, and you would like to support the continuation of that content and the creation of more and better content like it, feel free to chip in. If not, don’t. No hard feelings.

All our content will be available to everyone for free, forever. But if you’d like to contribute, we’d certainly love you for it.
