Why-to define a why-to:
The uninitiated may be a bit startled by the why-to format when first exposed to it out of the proper context. "Whoa! What is this?" they might scream.

A why-to is a short and helpful guide to motivate one's pursuit of activities either a.) previously not pursued or b.) pursued so regularly that no one knows or remembers why they're doing them in the first place. You're used to how-tos, describing how to perform a particular activity (e.g. how-to install blackout curtains), but you may not be familiar with why to perform it (e.g. to prevent sunlight from stirring you out of a self-induced depression).

Why-to provide examples of why-tos:
Some learners like to see concrete examples that illustrate concepts in order to best understand those concepts. For more information about what this whole why-tos thing is all about, read the first section of my why-to book here. For something a little less abstract, here is a section on why-to own cats

As you'll see from reading through the why-tos that I've created, I like to provide why-tos from my own life to better illustrate why I have personally decided to pursue certain activities. In the end, I may even have a better idea for why I am alive in the first place! If you feel motivated to create your own why-tos, feel free to use examples from your own life.

Why-to support this project on Patreon:

Presumably, the Internet is a jumble of wires that runs along the circumference of the Earth, connecting broadcasting mechanisms to Wi-Fi routers to create a vast active living intelligence system that modern humans use to communicate information in real-time. In the form of text, audio, video, virtual worlds and animated .gifs, this information slowly builds humanity’s collective intelligence and awareness. The hope is, one day, that the schizophrenic hivemind that is the collective experience will congeal towards something a bit more productive, organized, egalitarian, happy, healthy, and, let’s say, fun.

To contribute as best I can to this endeavor, I have proposed a collection of why-tos. By reaching out to the world, across the jumble of wires, it is my hope that those who share a similar interest in why to pursue activities will help push me along. Financially, it would be great to have a dollar or two thrown my way, but, more importantly, I’m hoping that those of you connected to me Internetically will drive me from a morale perspective. For every experiencer of my why-tos that is out there, I will be that much more motivated to write why-tos and to pursue activities on a regular basis.

Why-to publish why-tos on another platform:
I will be publishing these installations on my own website because Patreon does not support the formatting necessary to really get the most out of the why-to process. Patrons will be given special links to private posts located on The Reality™ Institute

And, as I explore my own why-tos, I hope to curate a collection of why-tos from the world at large. Because we’re in this together and building the collective consciousness, the more perspectives on why to pursue activities the better. So, throughout the writing of why-tos, maybe we can build the ultimate collection for understanding the pursuit of life itself.

Why-to compile why-tos:
As much as it may feel like it, you are not living life alone in a vacuum, separated from every other individual through a thick jelly of subjective experience. Though reason may reach its limits at the edges of your own perception and sensation, the truth is that everything that surrounds you is actually no insignificant part of your own being. Emotions swirling throughout those in your proximity may, sooner or later, come into contact with your own skin in the same way as a drought in California may affect the quality of fruit at a grocery store on the other side of the United States.

In fact, we are all a part of an intricate and organic network of being, throbbing and bobbing as the cosmos expands, only to possibly retract and expand all over again. Perhaps more interesting is the fact that, for all intents and purposes, we all have our own consciousnesses, our own unique perspectives on this throbbing mass.

Here's one example of a why-to submitted to this project. To contribute your own perspective on why to pursue a given activity of your choice, email [email protected]

Additionally, backers of this Patreon will receive rewards as they support this endeavor. These range from music and cartoons that I have created to physical items.

Why-to charge per paid post on Patreon:
Patrons will only be charged when I make a paid post on this website. A single non-recurring contribution of $1 gets you access to all of this project's posts on Patreon. I don't intend to charge backers more than once, so, when you contribute, you'll get access to all of the private content, i.e. the why-to posts being fueled by this Patreon. Once I get to my goal, I will make one paid post that will charge you. How's that sound?

Thank you for your time, support, and love!
