What you’re supporting:

The Writing

I've been blogging for like a helluva long time. There's a good chance you know me from Comic Wisdom or even my old blog, Jill of all Trades. This isn't the main thing I do anymore as most of my work lately is freelance, but if I can get settled enough with this (meaning enough of you lovely people help support me) I expect to be able to publish my writing more regularly again!

I also have a writing/research position with the comedy podcast network Unpopular Opinion (fuck off, Joe Rogan, this is the best podcast network out there), and I was even a guest on the show! I write regularly for the website and help with the social media, and you can definitely keep up with me in both the comedy and politics arenas through Unpops.

Bylines also at Socialist Worker, SheKnows, xoJane, Hello, I Have Something to Say and more.

The Poetry

Hey, this one time I wrote a poetry book! I know, I'm like published on paper and stuff! It's called The Knowing of Being Loved and it's available on Amazon! I am also published in a handful of literary magazines, including Borrowed Solace, Wine Drunk Sidewalk, and issues #7 and #12 of Paper and Ink Zine.

I enjoy everything else I do, and I think I'm good at it, but while it's fulfilling, it's all my *work*. My poetry is my art; my craft. It's what I'd be doing anyway even if there were no jobs, no revolution to fight for, and no worries. Supporting me in this is supporting my heart itself, no joke.

I'm currently working on a second poetry book that's more lefty-themed, so you're legit helping me with tangible and important projects, I swear.

The Revolution

I’m a committed activist, leftist and organizer. I spend a shit ton of my time organizing, rallying, reading, meeting and protesting. I don’t get paid for this; in fact, it costs money.

Want to see the revolution happen but don’t really want to be part of it until it’s time for Les Miserables-style barricades and torches? Help support me. Pay me so I can defeat capitalism.

Ironic, no? But also it’s a little bit like playing “why are you hitting yourself?” with them because you’re using their capitalist money to help defeat capitalism, so that’s kind of cool.

Also a lot of my writing and research is wrapped up in this goal, so double win if you hate the system!

I do other stuff too

Some of you might have gotten here not because of my blog or my activist stuff but because you like what I do on Twitter, or you like my jokes, or you happened to hear me on a podcast (I know, I am a multi-talented bish), or maybe you’re my aunt and feel obligated to toss a few bucks at your degenerate niece. Whatevs. Thing is, if you’re helping support me, you’re helping support everything I do. I don’t get paid for most of the actually useful stuff I do for the world, so if I’m gonna keep doing it, I have to rely on your support and generosity.

How it works:

Patreon is pretty sweet, TBH. It’s kinda like Kickstarter or GoFundMe except it’s monthly instead of for one project at a time, and I get to keep any pledges I get even if the total doesn’t meet my “goal.” The goal is just there to give you a sense of what the money you share is being used for (popsicles and blow, duh).

For real though, I work only part-time outside of this stuff, and it's not entirely stable, so the money you share with me is actually helping me eat, have shelter, feed my cats, and buy books (you know, the basics). I rely on your support for survival, otherwise I would have to work full-time and I wouldn't be able to do all the things I outlined above.

So you “pledge” at whichever tier offers the rewards you want, and it automatically comes out every month like your Netflix subscription, so you get to support me and get sweet shit for it without having to go through the motions every time! And I get to eat! Yay!

Check out my rewards section and if you’re looking for something particular that you don’t see, hit me up and let me know. I’m always taking suggestions! That’s actually part of the beauty of this site; it provides a more direct way for you to let me know what my supporters want more or less of from me, and lets me gather valuable feedback.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this self-important article about why you should give me your hard-earned money!

Please help, I am so very poor!
