Hi everyone!  I’m Sara Dhooma and thank you for visiting my page.  I'm a Canadian with a true passion for adventure and have travel backpacked in 75+ countries.  I currently strive to explore and long-distance hike through the most amazing landscapes on earth.  The goal of my YouTube Channel is to share my journey, inspire, and guide others to embark on their own adventures.

My first big American long-distance trail experience was a life-changing 1,500-mile section on the Appalachian Trail in 2014.  In 2018, I spent six epic months hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.  I have a section left in Southern Oregon to complete because of the nasty 2018 smoke conditions.  Last year  the heavy snow conditions shortened my hike of the Continental Divide Trail.  I am looking forward to completing my missing big three trail sections to earn my Triple Crown!

I’ve completed several world-class treks including Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Everest Base Camp (Nepal), and the Milford Track (New Zealand).  My adventurous spirit has also led me to tackle lesser-known hiking trails such as the Kalawa Hill Tribes (Myanmar), Ciudad Perdida (Colombia), and the Chilbo Mountains (North Korea).  More fantastic trekking routes are established around the world each year to add my hiking wish list!

As a Peregrina, I’ve walked 3500+ miles on several ‘Camino de Santiago’ pilgrimage routes in Europe.  After an amazing experience completing the Camino Frances from St.Jean-Pied-de-Port in 2014, I became a Camino addict.  My ultimate goal is to walk all the major Camino de Santiago ways and document them on YouTube including guidance for logistics, accommodations, and daily expenses.

After a life-threatening pulmonary embolism, I left my office job in August 2017 to complete my hiking bucket list.  I made the decision while in the hospital that I would leave on an extended adventure after I was recovered.  Against medical advice, I am not taking blood-thinning medication because it may cause a fatal bleeding risk if I get injured in the backcountry.  It is more important for me to lead an enjoyable, fulfilling life, rather than stay safe at home.  I have been a full-time long-distance hiker since August 2017!

In 2020, I hope to be hiking long-distance trails on five continents – Asia, Europe, Oceania, South America, and North America.

To kick off the year, I went to sunny Andalusia to hike the Almeria section of the Mozarabe Camino de Santiago.  From Spain, I flew directly to Chile to trek the famed 'O' Circuit in Torres de Paine. Then travelling to the tip of of the continent - for the most southernmost trekking circuit in the world: Dientes de Navarino.  I had an unexpected stellar opportunity to join a 10-day cruise to Antarctica.  That once-in-a-lifetime trip allowed me to hike and camp on my 7th continent!  Afterwards I travelled in Argentina Patagonia to trek around Fitz Roy and the gnarly Huemul Circuit.

In the spring I have a crazy idea of hiking the first 100+ miles northbound on the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail.  Also, trying to attend all three Trail Day celebrations!  This summer, to obtain my “Triple Crown of Hiking” designation I will need to complete southern Oregon on the PCT, Colorado and the Winds on the CDT, and New England on the Appalachian Trail. When autumn arrives, I will hike the famed Scottish ‘West Highland Way’ and choose a Spainish Camino de Santiago variant.   I’m excited to trek with kangaroos on Australia’s premier long-distance route - the 623-mile Bibbulmun Track***.  The final adventure of the year will be spent with Mediterranean mountain views, ancient ruins, and Turkish culture on the 350-mile Lycian Way***.

With your encouragement, I will continue creating frequent YouTube videos about long-distance hiking, international adventure, and the Camino de Santiago.  In 2020, look for new information videos about packing lists, gear selection, thru-hiking/Camino costs, trip planning and interviews with the hiking community.  I will be walking thousands miles this year and will daily video-blog direct from the trail with craft beer reviews, bridge dances, and enthusiastic kookiness!

If you’ve enjoyed my Youtube Channel in the past, and would like to contribute to its future, I hope you’ll consider becoming a patronBy joining my exclusive community I will be able to achieve higher-quality video production, cover on-trail expenses, and obtain travel insurance.  Thank you in advance for all assistance – including thoughtful comments on my YouTube videos! I hope that my adventures will continue to inspire wanderlust and motivate others to explore!
