After years of faithfully filling the "Drunk Shakespeare" Niche in the DC Theater Ecosystem, Shakespeare in the Pub is transitioning to a new phase of its debauched existence:

Real* Shows.

PHASE ONE: 2020
The Workshops
In Spring, Summer, and Early Fall, Shakespeare in the Pub will produce readings of Antony & Cleopatra, Two Noble Kinsmen, Titus Andronicus, and King John. With a small band of actors, we'll plunder the texts for all they're worth, workshopping bits and working on saying words "correctly", in stead of our usual half-assed approach. (We're going full-ass here, people.) Then we'll present the results in one of our usual weeknight performances to gather audience feedback.

This is where you come in. We can't go our usual route of passing the Tip Fez to collect actor payments on this one. We want people to be able to pay their bar tabs and maybe also get a cab home after.

PHASE TWO: 2020
The Performances
After we wrap up our last workshop, we're gonna pick the play we like best and do it for real. We're talking a full run of performances, real* props, real* costumes, and really* paying our actors. Watch this space.

*"Real" in this case means "as real as SITP can ever be"

  • ARE YOU KIDDING? WOW.
  • Ok. We dont expect anybody to pledge that much, but if you do, we'll think of something special to say thanks.
  • Obviously you also get a sonnet. And the rhymes in this one will be good.
Goals
$14 of $300 per Performance
This is the bare minimum to make a workshopped staged reading happen. This allows us to pay 6 actors $50 each for about a week of work on their part.
