Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Michael Boisson, but most people know me by my online alias Shaostoul and I'm developing a video game called Project Universe and you're invited to participate in the creation of the game!

TL;DR VERSION:
TL;DR #1 - I have Crohn’s Disease, I’ve been playing and modding video games since the early 1990’s, I want to make a video game, I’ve gathered some help, and things are progressing rapidly!

LOG:

2019.03.11 - We’re sitting sitting at 23 developers, a few of which can’t contribute anything until they can be helped financially. Several 3D modelers are creating content. I've been advertising as best as I can. I've emailed various CEO's about investing in this project. Would be amazing if we got a sponsor from some company. I'd be amazingly happy if we were able to get to $10,000/month. I'd be able to have 4 people helping me immediately and getting myself setup to live-stream. I spent a ton of time rewriting my Patreon in hopes to better appeal to people checking it out. I hope people enjoy all the hyperlinks to relevant locations. I'm laughing maniacally at how many people it'll drive insane.

I make this promise to you guys: When this thing explodes in popularity and we get massive funding, I will do everything I possibly can, to put as much funding as I can, into the development of Project Universe. I don't care to have tons of money in my bank account, I'd rather spread the love and create the best video game I can possibly make with a whole bunch of people. #Reality

LONG VERSION:
I started playing video games in 1992 and modding them in 1994. Fast forward to May 2014 when I started modding Space Engineers, then to 2016 when I started dealing with Crohn’s Disease that made everything up until that point, null and void; College education, work experience, everything.

It was actually dangerous and extremely painful for me to use my computer at all, specifically sitting in the computer chair, this lasted over a year, so obviously a lot of the support I had gained from modding Space Engineers was dwindling. I continued to do my best to stick with the modding community and helping out where I could from my phone, but there wasn’t much I could do.

In August of 2017 my old computer died from a power outage that took out the motherboard and hard-drive that had everything I had been working on for the last 9 years. All of my modding source files, all of the commissions, everything, was gone. I started a GoFundMe shortly after, raised just shy of $2000 (rest came from elsewhere), $1000 of which came from Marek Rosa of Keen Software House, the developers of Space Engineers and then built the PC I have now.

In January 2018 I got a message about going to Emerald City Comic Con in March. The offer got approved on my 30th birthday on January 29th and then a couple other modders and myself from the Space Engineers community had our guest panel that was paid for by Marek Rosa and out of our own pockets.

Since Crohn’s started affecting me,
I began to seek ways that I could establish a new life for myself, since everything I’ve done before now was useless to me and I really didn’t want to live life on disability. I can’t work any sort of job due to severe health issues, I can barely clean dishes or bathe myself due to severe fatigue from Crohn’s, the medications, and some other stuff. The good thing about fatigue, is that while my body was exhausted, my mind was hard at work doing what I could to make my dream come true.

I had been playing with the idea of developing my own video game for quite some time, it’s part of the reason I’d been learning to mod for so long, it was teaching me everything I needed to know. I had, over the years, created a lot of documentation on my Google Drive for Project Universe and so I began working on pursuing this idea as it’s my best hope for a future I could be proud of.

Slowly it grew.
Late 2018 several of the 3D modelers within my community caught wind of me developing a video game and they offered their help! So began the creation of new concept art to replace everything that was lost. Then the next big step happened in January 2019 when a programmer contacted me about an old ad I had seeking programmers to help with making better mods for Space Engineers. We discussed things for a while and he too offered his extensive programming knowledge to the game!

TL;DR #1 - I have Crohn’s Disease, I’ve been playing and modding video games since the early 1990’s, I want to make a video game, I’ve gathered some help, and things are progressing rapidly!

Now to the present, my health has very slowly been improving, but if it dips down at all, due to an infection or I get sick or something, it takes a long time to get back to where I was. It’s finally at a point, starting roughly in January 2019, where I can use my computer chair again for long periods of time.

Feeling excited and hopeful for the future with all this extra help flowing in, I decided to reach out to more people that could be interested in developing a video game.

TL;DR #2 - Anyone and everyone is welcome to join the development team for Project Universe. If you can design maps, draw spaceships and plan them out, create cinematics, create stories, voice act, create interesting characters, create 3D models, mix your own music and audio, draw concept art, add content to a video game, plan ship classifications, can program in C++, pretty much anything that can be used to create a video game, we can use your help. Testers are encouraged to join.

TL;DR #3 - Funding for the game is all you see on this Patreon page and the GoFundMe. Funding is vital to faster development, but the project is happening regardless if anyone helps or not. The good news is that tons of people (devs = 23, 3/11/2019) are already helping with content!
