Who am I? What is my story?
My name is Simon Morrell and I spent most of my early years filled to the brim with fear. Beaten, battered abused, that was my life. Beaten physically since the age of five, the playground spats escalated pretty quickly. Knocked unconscious at the age of seven by a thug wielding a bar would seem to be the sign of the things to come.

Verbal abuse, being spat at, ridiculed, it all seemed part of my everyday life as I shrank, smaller and smaller. What I thought would be the lowest point of my life occurred when I was sixteen. An absolute psychotic youth took a dislike to me and waged a campaign of war on me lasting over six months.

Said youth would think nothing of turning up at my front door and aware of the presence of my parents would still issue threats of harm. The constant exposure to adrenalin and fear took its toll and then came to a head when he chased me through the streets armed with a large carving knife, war cries at full volume.

I finally succumbed. The fear had gotten too big for me and panic attacks were quickly followed by agoraphobia. My world shrank to the size of a pin point. Enter a girl named Julie.

Julie was the first person to ever get me. She was the first person I ever opened up to and thankfully saw something in me. She encouraged me to return to Martial Arts (my previous attempts at Karate resulted in the Instructor giving me such a beating, I was sick whilst laying on the carpark as he kicked me). I did return though it was as a mouse of a man. But then something changed. I realised that despite it all I was quite good at fighting. In fact, scrub that. I was excellent at fighting.

I excelled to a level I didn’t think was possible and now I am going to fast forward many years. I currently hold a 6th Dan Black Belt in Karate, Krav Maga & Kickboxing, I am a registered Self Protection Instructor who is a qualified Wrestling Coach who happens to be a three time Hall of Fame winner that also just happens to have been featured in The New York Post, the BBC, The Huffington Post (USA), The Daily Mail and many other worldwide, mainstream media. I am also a Full Contact fighter.

My book (one of six) From Bullied to Black Belt, is an award-winning true story based on my life and is closely followed by the sequel An Everyday Warrior. They sell well throughout the globe in both paperback and e-form with the audiobook version to be released in March 2019. Both books hold five start reviews on Amazon.

We are currently in talks with filmmakers to bring the story to the big screen with a possible cinematic release.

Does all this sound big headed? I hope not. You see I aim to inspire others through all my platforms be it the written word, public speaking or the physical medium of self-defence teachings. When BAFTA winner Geoff Thompson called me ‘an authority on fear control’ some years ago the title stuck and was further enforced when The NY Post said ‘Morrell is the United Kingdom’s answer to America’s gut-wrenching epidemic problem with bullying’

I started to realise I could have a massive impact on people’s lives and set about doing so. To date that success has been notable and appreciated with letters flowing in from near and afar.

What They Say About Simon.
Sensei Alfie Lewis, 5 times World Kickboxing Champion; “Simon is a true Martial Artist, he is Samurai.”
The Film Agency for Wales; “Simon’s story is the U.K.’s Rocky Balboa!”
Geoff Thompson, author (Watch My Back) BAFTA winner and film maker; “Simon is a class fighter. His books are honest, inspirational and could prove life saving for anyone wise enough to read them.”
Jonathan E. Kiser, Director of Integrated Combat Concepts (USA); “Simon is a class above the rest. Learn from him.”

What is the next step?
I want to turn this mayhem into a brand, a truly recognised global band. I believe I haven’t even hit the tip of the iceberg with what I can do so far.
I have worked hard to develop my strengths and strengthen my weaknesses. I have been blessed with the ability to both write and fight and intend to use those gifts to the fullest potential possible.

Once an agoraphobic who could not make eye contact with anyone, let alone hold a conversation, I am now comfortable standing on any stages, sharing my story and fielding questions. I want people to look at him and say that old cliché “Well if he can do it…”

I want to be able to travel the world and teach at seminars, talk at lectures and write to inspire. Whether the problem be a physical one, a child or adult being bullied, a victim of violence or abuse then my self-defence training will help.
Said self-defence training is drawn from 38 years of Martial Arts experience and takes from Krav Maga, Practical Karate, Kickboxing, Wrestling and Western Boxing. My belief is that I can make someone so good physically that fear is the last thing on their mind.

I have taken victims of rape and turned them into National Kickboxing Champions. I have taken people with stutters and made them public speakers. The kid who wouldn’t go to school for fear of the bully? We (my team and I) made The One Inch Tall Boy into a giant and that is a true story.

There is so much potential out there and I really thing I can unlock my fair share of it. By giving people potential you give them courage and where there is courage there is hope.

How will I do all this?
I have many roads I can access;

The written word. Through books, articles, blogs and essays I will get my word across. Currently my articles have been featured on Vocal, Scriblr, Huffington Post, On the Doors, Baby Spot (can you see the diversity there? A platform for bouncers and a medium for families and parents. Crazy), What Makes Tough Guys Tough? Martial Arts Illustrated.

The list goes on and I would like you to read the interview at then end of this piece, hosted by Mr Bob Sykes and featured in a printed version of Martial Arts Illustrated.

Of course, my books play a massive part. As well as From Bullied to Black Belt and An Everyday Warrior, there are currently four other books available worldwide. I am currently working on a self-help book based on my old friend fear (yikes!). My Fear, Your Fear will explore both the physical and emotional side of our torment, draw on true stories from people who have overcome our said friend and offer advice on how to overcome the reader’s own adversity.

Published in December of 2018 was my book Kia! The Karate Handbook for Kicking Kids! The book was a step by step guide to self-defence and Karate for children and was the first of its kind anywhere to include free links to instant video downloads for the viewers to see myself and one of my assistants perform the techniques in question.

Also, in the pipeline is a novel called I, Bully. A very dark tale of a psychotic skin head who wages a war of hate on a weaker foe (sound familiar?). A pre-reviewer compared it to the works of Shane Meadows (This is England, Dead Man’s Shoes etc).

I would also like to use the medium of the stage play and, in my satchel, waiting to be taken out and finished is a short piece called It Only Takes a Phone Call. Telling the tale of Dan, a family man whose father is a local gangster, it explores Dan’s own option when he tries to avoid the violence his dad craves, despite gaining the attention of a local drug dealer wishing him harm.

Through Public Speaking and Private Consultations. If you had old me some years ago that I would be a confident speaker, someone who could reach people I would have looked at you like you were from the moon. The fact of the matter is that I can talk, I can get my point across to help others.

Again, my speaking is diverse. From junior schools to colleges I have spoken about issues such as bullying, self-esteem, respect for self and others. From there I went into local and national businesses and gave advice on personal security and self-defence.

Moving forward I taught for The Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Assisted by my Black Belt daughter, we toured schools in Wales introducing Kickboxing and Self Defence. We once received an SOS call from a High School who had a group of children ranging from 13 years to 16 years who quite honestly, had grown out of the school’s control.

We answered the call and spent six weeks with the group, reaching out to them and whilst in all honestly couldn’t help all of them, the majority of them left our term calm, educated and willing to give things a go. Put quite simply, none of them got the expulsion they were facing.

I have enclosed in this proposal a link to an interview I did for the BBC some time ago. I think it speaks for itself.
I will make myself available for one to one talks via Skype for those who can’t make it to my centre but need consultation from someone who has been there, done it, survived it and thrived in it.

Through the physical. Last and certainly not least, I will inspire through the physical. After 38 years in Martial Arts I know exactly what works and when. For realistic self-defence techniques, I have found none better than Krav Maga. For those who don’t know Krav is a Combat System that was adopted by the Israeli Special Forces and called ‘the most realistic self defence system on the planet’ by The Times.

Krav cuts to the chase, removing all the superfluous, unnecessary techniques, providing a very honest and effective form of self-defence. I have taught this system to Police Officers, Door Staff, Security and members of the General Public. It has been appreciated by all.

For the sports arena I teach Kickboxing and have produced several national Champions including my own daughter and one of my sons.

You can combine the above with Freestyle Wrestling to instill in children and teenagers a system to inspire confidence, the confidence to not be victims, to not be bullied.

And of course, it goes without saying what an effective way to bring self-defence to ladies. Sadly, attacks our female members of society is increasing daily. Through our seminars and workshops, we hope to empower ladies to take control.

This can be done on a local, national and eventually international platform.
So why Patreon? Well quite honestly, all this will need funding. I have the skills, the patience, the time and the team behind me to make this a Global brand that will impact people’s lives in a positive way.

So far, my team and I have done a wonderful job of making our work available worldwide and we have done so with our own, limited funds but if we are to take it above and beyond its current status then we need help. We need someone to provide funds to really push it to the next level and I believe Patreon is the way to do that.

What will the funds be used for? The initial funds will be used for marketing (but not limited to). A decent, bona-fide and proven PR would be employed to exam our products and determine which way is best forward.

It may be through press releases for current and future books, it may be to organise media interviews, or it may even be to promote seminars, both physical and lecture based.

Given the success of any PR campaign and the demand for our products throughout the world then we would need funds for travel expenses, accommodation etc. Getting the products out there won’t be cheap, granted but then they aren’t cheap products.

They are professionally developed, finely tuned items aimed at delivering the very best the Simon Morrell brand can, and these will need initial funding to increase our exposure.

We would also need funding for our staff/team. Having nurtured instructors and black belts over the years and made them familiar with my way of teaching, it is a feasible idea to take a back seat in the everyday running of our classes in order I may pay more attention to writing and speaking engagements.

My staff at Fight Fortress (our UK based academy) are more than capable of taking mainstream classes whilst I would step in for the more exclusive, blue chip seminars and talks. Obviously, our staff would need paying for such endeavours and I would expect this to inspire them to travel with us to the more high-profile events.

Equipment. At the moment our equipment is fit for purpose for our needs. Our IT equipment is suitable and our physical kit up to scratch. By IT I obviously mean computers, printers, cameras etc and by physical then that means punchbags, striking equipment, mats etc.

However, at some point as our profile rises, we will need to upgrade these items. Certain funds will be issued for such purpose.

So, what is in it for you? As a Patron what can you expect? Well, initially you will get exclusive access to articles on a variety of subjects. Inspirational matter, fear control, advice on achieving your dreams etc. However, I also have a talent for fictional tales based on true life and these can include humorous stories and not so humorous ones. One man’s poison…

You will also gain access to ‘live’ self-defence and fitness training videos so you can work at home, at your own pace.

Have you ever wondered how you would cope when/if faced with an attacker armed with a knife? God forbid but it happens. I can show you how to act under pressure and deal with the situation. I can teach you how to follow the mantra when faced with a blade; Re-direct, Control, Disable, Disarm.

How about coping with a simple punch or kick? We have multiple solutions to menacing problems, all of whish have been pressured tested and found to be effective. You will gain exclusive access to these tutorials by qualified, experienced instructors all led by me.

I will also be available for one to one consultation via Skype and you will also be invited to seminars at discounted Patron fees.

For other media events you will be given priority notice of such and be able to access accordingly.

Your rewards will be in direct response to your contributions and you will always be treated honestly, fairly and with respect.
