DEAR SAPIENS!
You don't need to read it all, I wrote it for people, who know me just a little. Below is an intro, my "resume" and a "to-do list".

1. INTRO
I do animal advocacy through radio, essays, school talks, public events, news reports, workshops and beyond. I've been doing it for more than 10 years and it seems silly not to try becoming a full time activist for the animals. I never asked for anything back and I sense something wrong with money involved in defending someone - in doing things that should be done anyway. But I ask for it now to be able to dedicate as much as possible of my time and energy to what might help - instead of doing an office job, working in a hostel or goods delivery. Feels weird, but for this initiative I also have to "brag" about achievements and 'show off' my dedication and enthusiasm to my supporters. I will try hard!

2. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT! (or the resume thingy)
In 2008 I graduated in philosophy (University of Latvia) with a thesis on the ethical and legal aspects of human / non-human divide. That period changed everything for me. Since then I published translations of works by animal rights classics, started contributing to the Latvian Wikipedia about animal protection, nonviolence, sentience, veganism, speciesism, fur and factory farming etc. Investing a few days of work, it's possible to create good articles, that are still the first search results when someone looks up those keywords.
I write for my blog, news portals and online journals 'Satori' (essays) and 'Punctum Magazine' (interviews) about (but not only) the plight of animals and our moral schizophrenia in the ways we use and treat them. About their status and the clash between our values and the economic reality, about zoos, shelters, hunting, fostering, humane education etc.

I was one of the founding members and the chair of the board in the first Latvian animal rights organization "Dzīvnieku brīvība", that works through all kinds of hands-on projects, to bring light and kindness to animals of ALL species. I'm not active there anymore, but it is as lively as ever and we still have good relationships.

I give talks in schools, libraries, summer festivals, appear on national TV and radio shows, in public outreach events (including the keynote speech in the first Latvian Veganfest), to kids and the elderly, to the hearing impaired, cooking students, teachers in a kindergarden and in a TED conference - perhaps the most important thing I've done. This one:

Since 2015 I'm creating a radio show / podcast "Zootehnikums" on the Radio NABA (by the University of Latvia), reporting from events, interviewing activists, vets, thinkers and researchers, athletes and teachers, nutritionists, environmentalists, zoologists and others.

In November 2018 I organized (with a good help from my friends) a number of World Vegan month events: several talks in Riga and 4 other towns, a film screening, a Cube of Truth, workshops for activists, and founded the new "Riga Animal Save" collective.

To improve my skills I've participated in trainings about creative writing and activism, public speaking and argumentation, critical thinking, setting and pursuing goals, human rights, embodied peace-building & leadership, avoiding burnout, using e-tools for activism etc. I've also been involved in some fun things that I can't talk about yet, for various reasons :) But it will be revealed soon. I also visit European animal rights gatherings and conferences, collaborate with activists from around the world, and participate in youth events to inspire and empower young activists.

3. WHAT I WANT TO DO
or "if you see a job - it's yours!" ("to-do list")
There are many ideas that I want to bring into reality:
I want to do more educational and social events to make the local community stronger and more conscious, as well as help newcomers to get involved.
In addition to radio and podcasts, I want to create multimedia content - videos and live reports from events and actions, educational FAQ bits and interviews with inspiring locals, and fun ideas for creative and peaceful animal activism.
I want to work on spreading a non-violent, intelligent, evidence based and locally relevant view on the animal rights. It's not a joke or a marginal issue, an esoteric fantasy or an "imported fad".
I want to write and send to the media more opinion articles about animal related topics.
I want to help envisioning and creating the first Latvian animal sanctuary - closely connected to activist work and public education about the farmed animals.
I want to work for a more unified animal rights movement in Latvia, in the Baltics and beyond.
I want to make an educational exhibition with objects related to animals. Showing the tools of injustice that were and still are used against the innocent and voiceless. But also I want to show the positive - the most important Latvian books, cartoons and movies about being kind to animals, uplifting real life stories, anything that has been important for my society in this topic.
I want to see a monument in the Riga city - in remembrance of those whose lives and freedom was taken away in all these centuries.
I want to co-create a kids book about being kind to all the animals (humans included).
I want to do a non-violence focused "Ahimsa camp" in every European Rainbow gathering with topical talking circles, cooking workshops, educational talks about the creatures living nearby, NVC workshops, and doing art, poetry and music about peaceful coexistence.
I want to do more for the global community not just for the people in Latvia.
I want to pursue all these ideas and projects without struggling with the lack of time and energy, and without waiting and hoping that my colleagues will have enough time and energy to do their parts of the projects. We can not afford more waiting.

I'm not so good at planning far future and have many flaws to work on to be more effective, but I believe I could already do more, if I was more independent. I hope you can help me become more useful for the animals and the society in general.

May all the beings be happy and free.

Thank you kindly,
Sandris

Goals

Reaching this I can already try spreading my wings, to leave the little jobs and be a financially independent full time animal advocate! Sounds scary, but that's where I want to go!
