My name is Katie, and I'm a community developer, PhD student, and social scientist. I'm in my 2nd year of doctoral work at the California Institute of Integral Studies. My research focuses on the societal impacts of drug policy reform, you can learn more about my work here.

Right now, I spend most of my time traveling between SF and DC in my converted Chevy van, working on an endless number of projects designed to catalyze Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the cannabis industry.

I've just launched a major project called The Kind Guide. For the past 3 years I’ve been on the road researching, interviewing, and learning everything I can about Conscious Capitalism, social entrepreneurship, and socially responsible investing. I’ve organized focus groups, presented on panels, conducted sustainability audits, contributed to research projects, and worked with some of the leading cannabis businesses and nonprofits. While publishing academic articles is one way to advance the conversation around these topics, creating content that reaches broader audiences is an important aspect of social change.

I seek your patronage so that I can dedicate my time and energy to publishing and producing media that makes a profound and positive impact on the future of the Cannabis Industry and the health of our communities.

The Cannabis Industry is emerging at a time of great social and ecological crises. My job is to help make sure the post-prohibition future is an improvement.

Because the cannabis industry was founded on the ideals of compassion and stewardship, I believe this industry can be built differently than any other that's ever emerged.

My goal is to make sure every stakeholder knows that the Cannabis Industry does not have to follow a prescribed path of development. My job is to reach everyone in the Cannabis Industry, from patient to business owner to wary regulator, and to provide them with the tools and resources they need to integrate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability into their business and community.

The Cannabis Industry can be a revolutionary force for good, but only if we build it that way!

Cannabis is a multi-billion dollar market. If just 5% of that went to supporting well-run grassroots community development efforts, we could all work together to immediately repair the harms of the Drug War. We could change the nature of business ethics, and transform our communities in the process.

Through research, advocacy, and community organizing, I will make the argument that Conscious Capitalism must be a standard business practice an unstoppable meme within the cannabis industry.

But I need your help.

I know what to do, and I'm good at it, and it costs me $2,575 monthly to make it happen.

I've spent the better part of the last decade honing my skills as a social scientist and activist. I've lobbied federal, state, and local elected officials, tackled systematic social problems, and experienced first hand how difficult it is to stand up for ideals that scare shareholders who can only see the bottom line. I've served on nonprofit boards, lead town halls, and organized fundraising banquets that change minds and open hearts.

Right now I have education campaigns ready to launch, dozens of articles to publish, a podcast to produce, a YouTube channel to market, a Corporate Social Responsibility and ESG reporting app in user testing, and am *this* close to figuring out the final pieces of a vape-pen recycling program that has the potential to solve plastic recycling across America.

But I need help, and because this work has social impacts, I'm hoping my community will support me.

We live in strange times indeed, with so many issues needing our passion and attention. If you believe that building a socially responsible cannabis industry has value in this world, I welcome your patronage at any level of commitment, and invite you to participate in this grand adventure I'm undertaking for all of us!

A compassionate business model can be the norm in this newly regulated market. I’m not quitting until it is- help me make this a reality?

$3 of $200 per month
When I hit $200, I'll launch The Kind Guide and record the first Kind Guide webcast
