SquirrelJME is a Java ME 8 Virtual Machine for embedded and Internet of Things devices. It has the ultimate goal of being 99.9% compatible with the Java ME standard.

This project is purely written in Java, with a small secondary C project, and is very easy to port to different hardware. For running on native hardware, a compiler handles the conversion of Java byte code to machine code (in an intermediate format). Any system specific APIs are accessed via standardized system calls that handle the logic the compiler cannot provide. An execution engine which is written in C is available and it offers a lightweight method of code execution.

Additionally, there is a port of SquirrelJME to RetroArch which enables the ability to play older J2ME software and games designed for flip-phones.

Prioritized Hardware/Software Selection
$1,500 or more per month only 2 left

At this level you will have priority selection** on which hardware***/software should be supported by SquirrelJME. So, if you really want to see certain software running or the VM running on certain hardware*** then this tier is for you.

Since certain hardware*** and software can be much work, this is limited to two patrons.

** Only a single goal may be requested at a time per patron so as to not overwhelm during development.

*** The patron must donate the hardware/emulator to be supported, it will not be returned and no funds will be used for compensation for the hardware or delivery. Procuring hardware can be an expensive and time consuming process and it is easy to obtain the wrong hardware.
