At my current output (around a video per month) I will be able to cover most of my rent, utilities, student loans, etc. This in and of itself would be wonderful!
INCREASED OUTPUT
$800 per video
Wow!! I would definitely be able to speed up the process and get out 2-3 videos a month with more variety in content. At this point I wouldn't have to worry much about finding part-time or freelance work and could focus on making videos. I'll also be able to afford nice groceries! Yes!!
EQUIPMENT
$1,000 per video
I would love to get a pro-level microphone and even just a DSLR to shoot live-action segments with. At this level I could start saving towards that.

NOTE-- in the video I mention being unemployed. I currently have part-time minimum wage work and a little bit of income (really just enough to cover bills). But as far as any kind of actual industry job, salaried income, etc, everything is the same.

I got into video production because I love film so much and wanted to spend my life making movies. I've been making videos as a hobby since I was a little kid and I've been getting paid to do it for a while. After gaining experience for over two years working in educational video, I decided I wanted to (finally) start making more stuff on my own. I have always loved talking about movies and introducing people to films that I love and films that have influenced me. Film history and film analysis are fascinating to me and there's no reason for there to be any barrier to entry for anyone to learn about and appreciate them.

Right now the central series to my channel is SO YOU WANNA BE A FILM NERD. It's an introductory-level series that's a blend of film history and film academia with a focus on accessibility and anti-elitism. I was very active in film clubs in college and while I was always honest about my opinions and could go toe-to-toe with anybody on film discussion, I was aware that being closed-minded or being a snob would discourage some great people from getting involved. The series carries over that mindset and synthesizes all of the stuff I learned both in film school and on my own into quick, dense episodes that cover broad topics.

What's the point of making a fun, accessible series if people have to pay for it? I want my work to reach as many people as possible. At the same time, the more work I put into my channel, the less time I have to work and pay rent, pay for food, etc.

It would be wonderful if I could get enough support to buy nice equipment and expand production, but right now my focus is on financial support that will allow me more time to research and work on my videos. Editing itself is a time-consuming process. On top of that I would love to have time for reading and watching as much as I can to make sure I don't leave out any pertinent information (I love learning about film so it's a win-win for me!).

As mentioned in the video, I also want to start on a few more shows that would include a series on niche media I feel people should see, more general reviews, fun double- or triple-features, more serious and academic analytical pieces, and even interviews, short films, a narrative webseries, etc. My ability to expand is limited by my time, which is limited by my money. The more I can make through avenues like Patreon, the more I can expand and reach my full potential.

Payment is per video, not per month. If I don't produce any content, you don't have to pay me anything. You can also limit how much you donate per month regardless of how many videos I produce. Any amount is appreciated.

Thank you for reading!
