About Tanesha B Forman

Welcome, everyone! I’m Tanesha B. Forman. My pronouns are she and her. I am a Black, cisgender woman and mother to one energetic toddler. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and I currently reside in New Haven, Connecticut.

I love teaching and learning. I don't remember when and how I developed this unwavering commitment to education, but I suspect it has a bit to do with my childhood. I come from a pretty large family. I have six brothers and five sisters. I was the first in my family to attend college and am a very proud alum of Florida State University! I graduated in 2006 with a bachelor’s and master’s in Special Education. Post-graduation, I returned to my hometown where I taught a self-contained 6-8 class of students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. My first year was beautifully challenging to say the least, but I LIVED and LOVED every single moment. Since then, I have traveled around the country coaching and learning from teachers.

I deeply believe in self-evaluation as a tool to better understand how my biases are impacting my decisions as an educator. Throughout my career, I’ve come to understand and challenge views I’ve held about public education, the purpose of education, and my role in furthering disparities and inequity. I’ve presented ideas at national conferences, but mostly, I’ve worked with my school in rooting out our policies and procedures that were grounded in racist ideas and practices. This Patreon is focused on building a coalition of educators dedicated to their anti-bias and anti-racist journey. It is an imperfect space designed to engage folx committed to creating inclusive and equitable educational experiences for all students by building a community of learners who value the importance of collective action. Together we will interrogate educational injustice, reflect on our pedagogy, and evaluate strategies and resources for bringing anti-bias and anti-racist work into our schools. I will be sharing curriculum resources, hosting virtual seminars, workshops, office hours, meet and greets, and book clubs. The goal to co-create a community that understands the work is ongoing and ever-evolving.

All are welcome. Please stay as long as you like and trust that I am grateful for each one of you! Thank you!
