There has been a relentless campaign of arrests which has targeted fellow lawyers across the country. In 77 of Turkey’s 81 provinces, lawyers have been detained and arrested on trumped-up charges as part of criminal investigations orchestrated by the political authorities and conducted by provincial public prosecutors. As of today, 598 lawyers have been arrested and 1540 lawyers are under prosecution. So far 274 of the prosecuted lawyers were sentenced to 1762 years.

The Arrested Lawyers Initiative has been working to create awareness for our jailed fellow lawyers by monitoring the situation and then covering and publishing unique stories and reports about jailed, tortured, persecuted Turkish lawyers.

We are also working to give legal assistance to persecuted lawyers.

The Arrested Lawyers Initiative has published five thematic reports which were quoted by US State Department, UN Human Rights Commissioner, European Union and PACE.

We need your support to improve and make sustainable our non-profit campaign.
